All Welcome
Hours bled into days, and all the while, Ephraim remained wholly unaware of time passing him by. From moment to moment, his experiences came and went; each new fragment was new to him and few details were committed to the most primitive form of his memory. He encountered his siblings dozens of times each day, but each time was like the first, save for the inkling of knowing that sparked from their individual scents.
Caiaphas was a different matter. Perhaps because he was borne in her carriage for the entirety of his life, from conception to full formation and birth, he knew her acutely. He could feel the tug and roll of her emotions as they changed on the daily. He could calculate, in his own formless manner, the distance from his huddled form to her gargantuan one. Her smell was ingrained deep in his marrow, and amidst all the things he didn't know, she was the one thing he did. Whenever Caiaphas was present, Ephraim was calm and silent.
But today, he wasn't focused on her. Instead, his attention fell on a blobby figure in front of him, smaller than he but obstructing his crawling path all the same. With an indignant huff and squawk, Ephraim sought to clamber over it, receiving in the process of ramming into @Raleska's side a puff of her fragrance, which niggled into the back of his mind as something that was becoming familiar.

Raleska awoke with a squeak, a paw pressed firm against her cheek. And then another, and another, until a weight that was both bothersome and uncomfortable pressed down on her head. She squirmed with a loud cry, trying to free herself from the unwelcome pressure. After a bit of a struggle she pulled herself out from underneath the fattiness of her brother, who as of yet was still an unknown to her besides being Chief Hindrance™.

Free as she was from being climbed upon, she was now aware she was cold. With a loud squall she set back on her uncoordinated haunches and cried, besides herself and unable to do anything about it.

Thus steeped in Raleska's scent, Ephraim paused in his endeavour to draw deep breaths of the air that wreathed his head. It was long enough that Raleska, having decided that his company was unsavoury, struggled under him and found her way out. Ephraim himself tumbled onto his belly, which immediately recoiled from the cold of the den floor as he picked himself up on his club-like paws for just a moment and wobbled there.
Her scent was still present in his mind, a brief imprint that lingered longer each time he encountered it. While it was still fresh, the coywolf cub warbled out a call for its attention, and when no attention was forthcoming, issued a louder and more demanding sound. He could hear nothing of his own voice, and could see no form in the dark behind his eyelids, nor hear any response from Raleska. After several long moments (i.e. seconds) without attention returning to him, Ephraim struck out on weak and wiggly limbs, searching for her while the imprint of her scent began to fade once more from his infant mind.

She heard nothing of her cries, but it did not diminish the fervor in which she uttered them. Disconsolate on the den floor, she began to hiccup. It was a strange sensation, and each one rocked her body a little bit more until she was standing on four unbalanced feet.

Something came along in that uninterrupted dark, and walked right into her. Rammed like a wet tissue, Raleska crumpled to the ground. This time she kicked out a few times as she tried to regain her footing, bobbing awkwardly like some drunken toddler.

Raleska, it turned out, was not the same as Caiaphas. When Ephraim chanced to call out his shrill puppy whistle to be consoled, she was often there. The finer nuances, such as the begrudging sighs that might have accompanied her ministrations, were of no consequence to the boy who could not hear or sense them, and so he felt for Caiaphas a glowing sort of love. For the fading scent-mark in his memory that was Raleska, he felt mostly curiosity, for she didn't give him what he wanted when he demanded it the same way their mother did.
So he searched, rapidly forgetting just what he was searching for, until the imprint was renewed with Raleska's fresh scent as he entered her narrow bubble again. With a pleased squeal the newborn launched himself forward with paddling paws, dragging his considerable bulk into a slow motion collision with Raleska, who just happened to be poised for tipping. She went down kicking, taking Ephraim in the gut and throat as he attempted to steamroll over her and causing him to cry out and stop short, pudgy belly resting comfortably on her shoulders with his upper half draped inelegently over her head.

Raleska was being assaulted on two fronts: one by her own body, which pressed rough hiccups to her throat, and two by her brother. Obstinately, Ephraim kept his path and Raleska was bowled over. She might have put up a bigger fuss initially had she not been ransacked by repetitive hiccups, but she was so preoccupied by the alien sensation that squeezed her chest tight that Ephraim was able to sit primly atop her, neat as a catholic school-boy.

Her brow scrunched as she struggled to come to terms with this newfound weight on her shoulder. Immobilized, all she could do was try to kick him clumsily with her hinds, and even then it was like watching two sloths struggle for the finish-line, so slow and cumbersome were her movements.

His seat was comfortable. Was this what a throne felt like? Ephraim would grow up to no such aspirations, but to be able to sit on a comfy-ass seat while someone else did the work... ah, that was the life. Even as young as he was he showed a propensity for doing nothing, or at least nothing productive. He was content to sit on his sister for the rest of the day.

But Raleska was a fighter, if small, and her sluggish movements were still enough to disrupt his precarious position. He wobbled unsteadily as he attempted to rise into a proper sit. Coupled with the hiccups, the rolling under his bum was too much and he toppled face-first to the floor with a startled yelp, inadvertently kicking all of his feet out as he hit the ground and probably, maybe, catching Raleska somewhere around her jaw.

Any victory Raleska might have felt was crushed - both literally and figuratively - by Ephraim tumbling off of her and kicking her in the process.

Rude.
As.
HELL.

A kick in the face, moreover - she flinched, her jaw smarting with the most unfriendly of sensations. She didn't like it, not even one bit.

There probably weren't many people in the world that enjoyed being kicked in the face, even when it was done by an adorable puppy. Unsurprisingly Raleska was one of those people who particularly did not enjoy the sensation a kick in the face leaves, and so, she sat upright and started howling with disconsolate cries.

He was probably the most uncaring sibling the world had ever seen; he felt his foot connect hard with something and promptly forgot about it. Raleska teetered back and cried out, but the piercing sound never reached Ephraim's plugged ears. He was too busy pulling himself forward with his paddling limbs, doing his very best to escape from the smarting of his face. His pugged nose had hit the floor first and one nostril was slowly seeping blood. He could smell its metallic stench and feel the radiating pain through the side of his face. No lasting damage, but it was Ephraim's first nosebleed and though it would end in mere seconds, the boy ended up wailing as well, competing with Raleska for Loudest Babe in the cavern.

Her head still rung from the impact, but now she was more upset she was crying - thick, glutted sobs heaved her body, and possibly a snot-bubble or two as well. Raleska's wails were so all-consuming that she didn't notice her brother's nosebleed (good, he deserved it) or his own fit; she was too self-involved in her own misery to possibly commiserate with a fellow being.

Eventually her sobs subsided, if only because now she was hungry - and a little sleepy. Being dramatic was a hell of a lot of work, and she was suddenly exhausted. Overtaken by her own tiredness, Raleska tottered past Ephraim and fell to her mother's flank and after a few suckles, promptly fell alseep.

Both nosebleed and wails ended in short order. With no further stimulation and no desire to revisit the already waning memory-scent of Raleska, lest he find himself face-down on the floor again, Ephraim flattened himself instead and succumbed to sweet sleep.
