Limit Two
the dark wood called to the ancient blood flowing through the veins of the unchild, demon-made-flesh, culmination of all the dark magicks thick in the auras of sire and dam. asperas did not question the call, nor stop to ponder its origin. neither did she realize that there was any deeper meaning to it than her own natural inclination to inhabit the darkest corners of the world; as far as asperas knew, this was only a natural step in her progression. the gloom and decay of it all was her birthright, by virtue of her own nature if nothing else.
perhaps one day, she would come to find that her shrouded nature was rooted much deeper than even merrick knew.
today, she only saw a forest that called to the darkness in her bones. the cawing of crows and the croaking of ravens masked the wet sound of muddied paws over dark mire, an eerie chorus to welcome the voidsent to her ancestral home. along a drier patch of earth, shrouded by damp rotting leaves and dark shreds of discarded and dying foliage, a smattering of red mushrooms had sprouted like a rash spreading over the earth. asperas drew closer, captivated by the strange odor and the white growths scattered over the shiny red flesh that only heightened the likeness to disease, and emboldened the instinctual scream of danger reverberating through her mind. rather than ward her off, however, the threat drew her in.

akashingo was too quiet.
the lord had come and gone. maggie had enjoyed waiting on him, perhaps too much.
"ugly bit o' wood," she spat at the eerie trees, traipsing on into them with skirts sodden from dew. resting a bit, with a loud curse and a slump of her body against the nearest tree, maggie told herself she would well move on soon.
an hour's time found the beauty asleep, placid, almost angelic in a glowing heap near the stem of juniper-leaves.
if she would but open her eyes, she would see the mushrooms and the tiny, jagged shadow watching over them.
but maggie slept on, snoring lustily.
