Ashlar heard Augur’s call from a distance but he was already gone. There had been no body; he’d followed the trail, and though the mourning reached his ears, he blocked the sound out with deliberate resolve. He wouldn’t give up so easily.

The only thing that had given him pause when he realized Avicus was missing was the pups. Could he leave them to search for her? They were hers and in some small part his… but it was so small a part. And in the end, his moon was pulled to the overwhelming gravity of her.

He would search until he had exhausted all hope and even then he would likely press further. There was no way forward for him but this. No future but one with him there, at her side, dedicated to the dreams she carried. With this star guiding him, Ashlar left the Rise to its own future.
