When Niamh finally woke up, Screech felt a small wave of relief but it was dwarfed by his own pain — and the pain was further exacerbated by the girl's shrill voice. He didn't know why she was yelling, having forgotten all about his plan to deter her with his noggin (because that had been quite a blow to the head), so he just sat there squinting at her for a bit.

He groaned and flopped sideways, pushing against her with a lazy paw as if that would make her stop; evidently he'd also forgotten about his romp through the bog and his interaction with Gannet, because that foul smell that clung to him (and some of the slime) was imparted to Niamh without a second thought. Thinking was hard right now! He needed a nap.

Stop shouting, Screech drawled, Lemmie — lemmie smash slee.. ee.. p. A nap seemed like a great idea right now. He was floating in his own head after all, and aside from the occasionally intense nausea, that weird floating-in-the-ocean feeling was making him drowsy.
