The sun was setting, and Mal had left to go out and see if he could find whoever it was that @Zephyr had run into -- for a few reasons, some of them selfish, some not so much. Selfish reasons were probably ruling the moment, but considering the horizon was clear and the tracks through the snow were starting to fill and smooth to nothing, it didn't seem he'd be finding her.

Kind of unfortunate, but he'd live and not be too disappointed in the end. If that chick left and took her alluring scent with her, then she wouldn't cause any more problems around his pack. So, he broke from the fading trail, taking a wide arc to turn back towards the forest, unhurried. Clear his head, figure out the future. Blah blah, but last time he tried to do that, he got interrupted. Out here there might be less of a chance. Or not. Let's be real, it's Mal. He was a magnet for that kind of thing, and the decent walk home left an opportunity.
