All Welcome
the woods stood empty, testiment only now to what could have been, what once lived as an idealized image to in her heart of hearts. she stood now within them undeserving and unfeeling. any signs of habitation that may have been etched out palely stood now completely covered, and the woods were silent save for the creak of ravens, sounding ever so similar to the rattling groan of the trees as they shifted beneath the snow.

she observed carefully the tiny body that lay half-buried at the foot of one of the larger pines, curled and dead in the cold. a chick, mere days old, a mistake. she nosed it gently, prying it from the pale grave before snapping it betwixt her fangs and swallowing it, regretting it when the cold body moved slowly down her throat. straightening, the huntress turned away, wondering if the bodies of it's clueless parents lay somewhere near to the chick they'd attempted to rear far too early. it was a mystery she did not care to solve, and move heavily southward again.

The woods were empty, besides of one wolf who tried to make claims to it once more. Though the effort, has barely been shown, as the marks easily fade, and a tiredless journey to re-do was endless. She knew some would pass, some whome would fade into the snow, or simple wander by. Though alert, Desdemona would watch them all, and pry out their scents to make their deeds be known. She was a determined, lost Morningside member, keeping the desire to protect the woods.

She had missed the unfortunate meeting of a few, and did not notice the falling of a smaller being. The snow buries many, the prey and the wolves, she could not catch them all. However one was in the forest, a shaded figure of scars and glory. Desdemona thought she looked familiar, but at the same time, could not recognize this mysterious wolf. Nontheless, it wouldn't matter, for the other entered, and the darkened wolf would make herself noticable. She stepped out, missing the moment of a devouring young one, and looked at the other cooly, watching them, asking in silence, 'why are you here?'

there came another, dark and sudden. bronze gazed matched the cool one evenly, found in them nothing sparking recognition. a woman, dark. not painted with night sky but rather the same charcoal that marred the plains, umbers and deep soil. no words were spoken, but meaning was clear in the woman's movements. there was a tightness in her chest at the stranger's prescence in the woods that had once been hers, and all she'd hoped and wanted. but she'd burned her title when she'd vanished into the north, and would not reclaim it.

"to remember." her own gaze echoes the question back at the other, nares flaring once to catch her scent. they seem alike in their solitude, if nothing else; she catches no distinct pack-scent on the woman's fur. breath coils again before her nares as she regards quietly the stranger.

Two who came from the same place, but their paths never crossed during the time Morningside was here. Both were here to remember, and to grieve what was here and gone, but neither would seem to know of a past they shared. Desdemona nodded, in an understanding the desire to remember, and a desire to see what was lost. Though she understood, she only nodded her head, and maintained the guarding stance, and a cool gaze toward the other, like she was unwanted in this forest. Her forest, until the day it is reclaimed.

"It is claimed." Through silence, she spoke softly, a warning to the solemn stranger. A claimed land, an unknown wolf, there may be no scent around, for there is only one, but Desdemona would not let that be known. For it is hers, and it is for Morningside, and it is destiny, to fight to keep it around on whoever dared to attempt to take away the sanctuary to the tainted wolf.

there is something that twists and burns in her at the words; the woods should stand empty, always, a testiment to what was and nothing more. "by who?" the words are careful, and she regards the woman with an intensity that burns through the fog of her mourning for this place. she tests the air again; she detects nothing. she knows that this place is merely a territory, that she herself if a hypocrite for thinking of it as more than such, but she can not help it. she is unwanted here in her maplewood, the place and the ideal she fought to protect up until she effectively abandoned it. she hides this well, and intensity fades to a stillness that seeks to match the woman's own fridgid demeanor. but the woman says nothing, and in a moment melts back into the shadows from which she came. left with a certain feel of unease and more questions than answers, the huntress departs.
