She couldn't do it.

The den she had made in the moors seemed to hang gloomily over her. The more she looked at its root-cloyed walls, the more she began to loathe its part in her life. The more she dreaded that hour that, was rounding out at last..

When they were born, they'd change everything. They'd move her life as she knew it. She wouldn't be able to get any of it back. She wasn't ready to be a mother -- she wasn't fit to be a mother.

Raleska choked back a sob that threatened to shake the very walls which closed around her. For a long time, a heaviness had seeped into her heart. For a long time, she had known what she must do.

She would birth them in the wild -- and when they took their first little gasps of life, she would leave them on the pinestraw to be claimed by the forest.
