All Welcome
just because she'd been avoiding @Sunny, didn't mean she didn't feel bad about it. the first few days, she'd remained near, but when it became apparent that he didn't know who she was beyond simple family ties, she'd become more scarce around him. it was the opposite of what she ought to be doing, she knew, but it was a lot. She'd been doing her utmost to teach @Minnow all she could of hunting, and sought the girl out more often when it became apparent that Sunny wasn't ready to fully occupy his old role.

it is @Valiant she searches for today, however, following what seems to be his freshest trail. when she deems herself near enough, she sends up a howl for him, eager to know her nephew is healthy and alright. she doesn't doubt it; she's heard he'd been staying with Lavender (what she'd give to see her sister again, too) and among family. but she can't imagine how she'd feel if Grayday had become a shell of himself while she'd be that young, and hopes to talk to the boy about his father, too.

Valiant was moping again. He'd spent quite a lot of time moping instead of hunting, because it was easier to feel sorry for himself than it was to move past his sorrows and make attempts to better himself. Sunspot had been giving him aple hunting lessons, as had Easy and his father in the months before that, but there'd been a lot of time in between where he'd forgotten the skills or just failed to hone them. He felt stupid stalking rabbits and only catching one a quarter of the time, and didn't know how to improve his technique enough to feel it was a useful way to spend his time.

Dawn was lucky -- sort of. He'd just turned to make his way back toward the center of the territory (with no particular destination in mind) when she began following his trail. They met not quite in the middle, and when Valiant saw her, he realized just how much he had missed her even having been far from her for most of his life. He did not quite remember meeting her for the first time; he'd been very young. But he had always felt a deep fondness for his eldest aunt, and today was no different.

"Aunt Dawn!" he called, immediately setting off at a fast jog to reach her more quickly. They hardly knew each other, but his affection was deep and solid anyway. He crashed into her without checking to see if she would be glad to receive his affection and attempted to hide himself underneath the thick fur of her chest.

she finds him swiftly, though it takes her a beat to recognize the mostly-grown wolf before her as her nephew. when she does, a grin curves her muzzle and she rushes to close the distance between them. "Valiant!" she calls, just before they collide. she laughs easily as he attempts to hide at her chest; she reaches forward to slung her muzzle over his shoulders.

beaming still, she holds him close a moment, plant a kiss on the top of his head (which is rather easier to reach than when she'd seen him last). "you've gotten so big!" she exclaims, unwilling, suddenly, to wade into heavier topics, wanting to stretch the pure happiness of their reunion as long as it'll last.
