Heron Lake Plateau We might fall in love- or fall apart

At first, his words didn't really register. They would've sounded, to Niamh, just like how the teacher sounded in Charlie Brown- as though he was trying to say something to her, but both their heads were underwater. The words seemed to echo around in her mind, as though trying to find their way to her ears, where they should have been, before the sharpness of reality struck her, and her eyes widened. 

"Jeeze, you're — you're crazy y'know that,"

She lurched as soon as she realized he was standing over her, but the throbbing in her head made her recoil and whimper as he stepped off her, a bit clumsily. She groaned; she wanted to say something, but the pain in her head made it feel as though her skull had been cracked open. Pitifully, she flattened her ears and squeezed her eyes shut, as she slowly curled her body up into a spindly-legged bundle on the ground and tried to will the pain away.
