can a character travel off-site without going inactive?

details if it matters: what i have in mind is a character going off-site for a trip and coming back. none of the off-site portion of the journey would be posted on-site because i assume we can't thread outside of game bounds. im just wondering if they can be referenced as having left teekon if they never went inactive
