Having departed Kukutux' den, Ciri made her way quietly through the village. She crossed the paths of several Moonglow wolves, smiling sheepishly in their direction should they raise their gazes to investigate unfamiliar footfall or offering a shy wave of her tail. She was both eager and afraid to be among her own kind. Figuring it best to make attempt at integrating herself with a clear head, Ciri sought a hollow where she could make herself a place to sleep.

To invite herself into the heart of Moonglow felt wrong, as though others might see her as intruding, so she dug herself a scrape along the edge of the territory. @Chakliux had spoken of his intention to find her, keen on initiating a hunt, so when she woke from a brief slumber she made her way toward the Firefly Glen as evening fell.

it would not do to say that the son of waking shark waited for any woman.
and still chakliux did. first he had busied himself with hunting, but when he returned within eyeshot of the ulax, the ground-caller was not there!
she must have gone into the village's land. the seal-hunter gave his kill of grouse to the young ariadne. she was woman, she would know how to prepare it.
he bid himself patience and did not move to find the dark one's trail until night touched the dwellings.
blood and meat and talking; the moonwoman told a story. chakliux took a bite of dried fish and then backed into the shadows.
out here the snow was pristine and untouched. he found her trail easily and followed it to wherever she saw fit to make her first sleeping-place. chakliux did not approach so close. but she was not there either!
hooting in frustration, the seal hunter man tracked the earth-talker from the village boundaries. he found her in the place where they all had danced, and called out a greeting as he came along. "i hunt brother fox tonight. he wears fur of all black." as he spoke to ciri, he looked at her, still curious.

She lingered, patient, looking out over the plain where fresh-fallen snow glistened in the light of a setting sun. She saw no tracks break the surface, no suggestion of prey or predator alike having passed through. Ciri lifted her slim muzzle and tested the air, where she found the aroma of her pallid pack-mate upon the chill.

He had come, and she greeted him with a smile to accompany the wave of her ebony tail. Chakliux spoke of one he named "brother fox", his apparent target, and her ears twitched. She assumed he wished to fell a literal fox, which made Ciri feel disappointed; she wished to feast, and this particular meat was not what she had in mind.

Where do we begin? Ciri asked, not wishing to insult the seal-hunter by curling her lip in distaste.

"first we find where he sleeps." something had changed in the energy between them, but chakliux was too much of a crowing-man to notice for now. "when i found his trail the last time, he had eaten caribou meat."
a fox could not kill a caribou. "if we find this body, then we will find a herd as well as brother fox's fur!" chakliux danced a low hunting step, then broke into a swift run toward the edge of the glen.

The seal-hunter seemed to have it all figured out, and Ciri found herself wondering how long he'd been plotting this particular hunt. She watched him as he explained, allowing herself a short time to better study his handsome features. The unusual shade of his eyes reminded her of those candyfloss sunsets that promised clear skies in the following morning.

Okay, the swallow agreed, and Chakliux' enthusiasm sent him sprinting away from her. A natural huntress, she was lured by the thrill if the chase. Raven tail flagging, Ciri tore across the fresh-fallen snow in pursuit of her pallid companion.

the earth-caller ran with him.
chakliux looked to ciri from time to time; he gave her a laughing expression as he leapt a log and landed nimbly beyond.
at last the seal-hunter slowed and began to search for the trail of the fox, attention now fixed completely to the task before them.
chakliux had liked the feel of ciri's eyes on him.

It felt good to give chase. Ciri, practicing control of her urges, resisted the desire to nip at the seal-hunter's hindquarters as he ran. Instead she hung back, focused on her breathing, and reminded herself that she was no longer a child.

Their pace eased, and the swallow followed Chakliux' lead. Hawk eyes sharp, she looked over the snowswept land and lifted her muzzle to inhale through flared nostrils. There was no hint of fox on the Winter breeze, so she pressed on at her companion's heel.

Do you intend to keep his fur? Ciri questioned, genuinely curious.

"if he gives it," chakliux grunted. there was no sign of the joking boy he had been a moment ago. every muscle was devoted to the hunt. the scarred man dipped low till belly all but brushed the earth and stalked like he had seen the great cats do in the summer places.
the wind shifted and here it was now, the faintest tinge of fox-scent on the air. chakliux glanced with a fierce eagerness at ciri and began to hunt forward, head low and eyes burning across the terrain.
