Limit Two
More sunrises would pass before Sialuk led the way to Moontide with the two boys she had raised alongside her own children. She yearned to sing the songs for her sister, to lay her to rest properly, but this could not be now. Maggak and Acrux had begun to outgrow the confines of the ulaq, their legs taking them further each day. Sialuk watched them grow with fascination. She had seen it in her younger siblings, but never before had she been so intimately involved in the rearing of another generation.

She sought solitude at her shrine today. Sixsix had brought another bone, perhaps one to even out the one Sialuk had sent with Ariadne for their sister's burial. The starwoman held the bones in their skin, wrapped loosely as she held the corners. Gently, she let them fall where they may, taking stock of what truths they might tell her. They spoke in riddles, the ancestors, and today was no different on that front.

Orca was still a little grumpy with her parents leaving for the Copse. Being granted a choice shouldn’t have grated the way that it did, but Orca found herself just wanting to be wanted without any awareness of that fact whatsoever. Sure, they might have said something to the effect of “join us if you want”—but was that what Orca wanted to hear, exactly? No! She wanted a we would loooveeee for you to come with us and would be absolutely devastated if you didn’t!

She didn’t know where all these feelings came from. Life has always been good, until that damned hellcat. And Orca had put a curse out into the world to it. The world seemed to have gotten things a little confused, because now here she was at the ass end of it.

Ugh. She needed to get better at cursing. Or something. But at least there weren’t any more hellcat attacks, so… well, she could take that win.

All this thinking and feeling led her to… somewhere. She had been on autopilot and blinked at her surroundings as she realized where she had walked to. A quiet clatter snapped her head left, and there she caught wind of Sialuk. Caught between wanting company (since misery seemed to love it) and wanting to stew a bit more, she looked for any cues that Sialuk was open to her presence in the first place.

A rustle outside broke Sialuk's concentration on the bones, and she turned to find Orca at the opening of the ulaq. The girl had seemed down since the departure of her parents, and the head had many questions surrounding her continued time here. Orca, come in, she said, beckoning the girl from outside. She remembered the spell they had cast upon the hellcat, hoping to assure its destruction from afar. Sialuk knew that fighting it head-on would have done them no good; it had nearly shredded Njord and Seal, not to mention the others they were with.

What brings you here? she asked, her voice gentle on the girl who had seen much in her short life. Did she seek the same teachings as her sister, or did her path lead somewhere else. The starwoman glanced to the bones that lay scattered beside her, wondering if they said something of Orca. Perhaps the girl had come to seek answers to questions difficult to answer by other means.
