Shortly after their visit to Diaspora, just as the party started heading towards Lost Creek Hollow for the next part of the journey, it happened. Laurel hadn't expected it to happen this year, for the last it happened months earlier. But one night she woke up feeling different. Decidedly different. She couldn't immediately pinpoint it, but she decided to wander the meadow that night so that she could get some bearing on what was going on. And as she walked those familiar lands and saw Bearclaw Valley in the distance, she suddenly realised what was going on.

Her heart hammered in her chest as she suddenly felt very alone and compromised, and at the same time in the mood for a game. Laurel quickly started making her way back to her family, accompanied by the moonlight, but it was a long walk back to her sleeping relatives. As she turned around, Laurel realised she had drifted quite far away from them.

it might have seemed it was by chance that iliksis was not so far from laurel that night, but it could hardly be further from the truth. since his initial rejection, iliksis had taken it upon himself to follow her and her troupe's progress. he had always remained a day or so behind their travels, and thus far, went undetected.

tonight the dybbuk carried quail with him, having every intention to intercept laurel as she left the group. as he came closer, he pretended he was simply oblivious and traveling the other way -- and swung in a wide path near her trajectory that made it look as if he were simply passing by in the night.

She spun round and started heading back to her family and there he stood. It seemed as if he was simply passing by, but the fact she noticed him so late made a shiver run down her spine. The worst thing was that she felt her body react to the nearness of man, completely involuntarily. Ears flattened and then erected again in uncertainty as he wandered closer for a moment, before she decided that a mask was all she could do to feel better; feel in control again.

She looked at the quail between his teeth and her stomach rumbled. Maybe she could take it from him, Laurel thought. They had quite a large party now and Indra wasn't the best hunter. They got by, especially now that the snows had melted, but admittedly Laurel yearned for a good meal, all to herself.

Fancy running into you in this place. What are you doing here? she asked, her voice sounding surprised though friendly, though her body language was guarded and betrayed her mistrust of him.

iliksis froze as he was addressed, feigning surprise by dropping his bird. he slowly turned around, his hackles prickling and then settling as soon as he saw who it was. "oh," the man panted, his ears falling and then rising as he smiled guiltily. "sorry, i wasn't expecting anyone to be here. i've been looking for my uncle, last saw him around these parts." which was only partially true.

either way, he noticed her posture was still somewhat defensive. lowering his head slowly, iliksis pushed the quail towards the woman. "are you hungry? these guys are easy to get."

He immediately had an answer to her question, and like the last time they had met, Laurel felt a little guilty looking down on him and mistrusting him so. He was searching for his uncle, apparently. He didn't ask her if she'd seen him though, which seemed odd, and neither did he ask her what she was doing here, so far away from where they'd last met. Laurel kept her tail down, wanting to keep him from discovering her scent that had grown stronger -- even though she knew it was inevitable -- as that only seemed to turn all men into horrible beasts.

As he offered the food, she stared at it, not really sure if she should. If this was all an elaborate plan, then maybe the food wasn't good. Not that Laurel's many suspicions of all men she'd met in her adult lives had ever been true. Well. Mostly. Xan did turn out to be a dick and not love her after he'd fathered her children. Anyway... In the end, her hunger and survival instinct won over her, well, suspicions of men and survival instincts.

If you don't mind... she said hesitantly and studied his face to see if he was being genuine. She found him hard to read. Laurel took a hesitant step forward, not wanting to get too close to him because of her heat but hoping he'd step backwards at her acceptance of the food. We've been traveling for a long time.

for a moment laurel seemed to consider his offer. "not at all." iliksis returned, showing no misgiving for offering up his meal. during this time, the wind picked up and jolted ililksis with a scent he resented ignoring. keeping his expression bland as he could, iliksis nudged it again as she accepted it, stepping obediently backwards so she could have her space. "i can get another one, or two." the dybbuk promised -- it was not an exaggeration either; he seemed particularly skilled in catching quail. that skill was because he knew at night quail roosted in vulnerable places.

while laurel took the meal, the dark shade disappeared into the woods. he came back some twenty minutes later with two - it would have been more, but the rest of the quail were well out of his reach in the tree's uppermost branches.

he hoped laurel would still be there as he returned to the clearing, and if she was there, he'd offer her the second one before walking a few feet away to eat his own.

As the wind brushed through her fur Laurel shivered and watched him tensely, but he showed no sign of caring. He must care, she knew, but the fact he didn't immediately start hitting on her made Laurel feel more secure abusing the power she now held over him. Thank you, she said with an appreciative smile as she stepped forward. She took the quail and stepped back a few steps, then put it on the ground and started eating it -- she ate messily and eagerly, betraying how hungry she'd been. She contemplated declining his offer but really, her sister and their children could use the food, especially with useless Tadec in their travel party.

When he returned she had already finished the quail he'd given and was waiting. He brought her another which she dragged away once more, then started eating his own a little away. Thank you. That was delicious. I'll bring the other one to my sister. She considered leaving right away, but there was an instinct that bothered her to play with him a bit more. He seemed very stoic so far, so she wasn't sure what more she could get from him. Looking around, there wasn't a lot she could think of. She didn't want a repeat visit tomorrow for more food, she didn't see anyone he could fight with for her. Nothing, really. What does he look like? Laurel asked, though with no intention of even using or remembering the information.

he had hoped she was still there upon return, and here she was -- the quail cracked and all meat stripped of its thin bones. soon as he cast her the second quail, she dragged it out of his reach and left him to eat at his own pace.

parsing meat tenderly from gristle, iliksis ate lightly. he glanced up at her as she inquired of his uncle's appearance. setting aside the quail politely, iliksis' somber gaze slightly lit up. "he looks just like me, but much taller, with orange eyes. i was hoping he was well, but just about gave up before you came along."  he allowed a slight sliver of hope to briefly cross his features, as if to accentuate the story.

he could tell he was losing her again; and this time it was maddening, given she was in season. she had mentioned a sister - iliksis was loathe to try his luck lest she was nearby.. so instead, he remained charmed and polite, hoping she might fall for his masquerade -- all the while, not knowing she too tried to manipulate him.

He had an answer ready once more, and Laurel wasn't too sure if she was glad or disappointed. Maybe he really was just some random guy and all of this was totally coincidence.

Well, I should head back to my sister, it's a bit of a walk. There was a nervous crack in Laurel's voice and she cursed herself for it. Without realising she betrayed that she was all alone and felt alone and vulnerable.

Thanks again, Laurel said hastily and she felt her throat tighten. With tail hanging low between her legs she quickly picked up the quail and started heading off in opposite direction -- even though that was totally not where her family was, but she didn't want to have to pass him.

iliksis hid the disappointment he felt that she had yet to fall into one of hiss snares. catching the nervousness in her expression, he replied with a shrug of his shoulders and a harmless smile.

more than anything he wished to chase her down, intercept her -- but her guard was still up, and the idea of any screams of help being uttered caused him to still. he waffled for a moment with indecision and then called out. "wait!" he grabbed the half eaten quail of his own and tried to catch up to her. "i don't think it's safe for you to go alone - not that you're not capable of defending yourself.. its just that, i've heard some bad things about this place. at least let me walk with you - you can take this quail, too." he brandished the quail in a meager offering, hoping she might be compelled to at least let him walk alongside her.

He called on after her and Laurel felt her hackles rise. Her patience was running low and as much as she appreciated the food it was time for him to go. She didn't stop at first, but when he joined by her side and started just following her around Laurel had enough.

Stopping in her tracks, Laurel stared him down, dropped the quail and said in a haughty tone: Get a hint, you little freak! I said I was leaving! I'm not interested in your pathetic tiny dick or whatever it is you're being nice for. There was always a thing they wanted when they were nice for seemingly no reason, after all. That much Laurel had learned in life. So get lost, ugly mutt. She picked up the quail again and made to trot away, feeling kinda guilty for being mean but also powerful and somehow righteous.

ikky right now: click

she was too smart for her own good. iliksis froze, meeting her hard gaze but for a second before he looked away as if subservient.

the quail had not even hit the ground before the dybbuk turned and made his exit, departing in a manner that suggested laurel had well scared him off.

 * * *

laurel might have believed herself alone, but another shadow besides her own trailed her through the woods. he spared little time, but waited until laurel's heated gait had cooled, and a semblance of normalcy had returned to her disposition.

it was then the ambusher struck, coming from behind like a malignant shade. his steps were fleet and light, and with a snarl he aimed to strike laurel's proud head downwards, forcing her to the ground. her scent overwhelmed him, and a need for insatiable control filled his blood -- if his strike was true, he likely would stun and pin the woman to the ground, and show her what exactly this little freak had in store for her.

Fuck, finally he fucked off. Laurel's heart hammered in her chest as she took off with the prize between her teeth. After he was well out of sight she turned direction towards her family, glad to have food to bring home to them. After she was sure that he was no longer following him she slowed her gait. Feeling quite powerful and on top of the world she finally allowed her tail to rise again, a cheerful and proud expression on her face. She'd tell Indra when she returned about this dumb ass's stupidity and how he'd brought them food, all for free. And, of course, to warn her about the upcoming heat.

When she least expected it Laurel suddenly heard the twitching of the grass blades. Before she had a chance to turn around and react or even look she was smashed into the ground by force, the quail flailing through the air and landing a bit further away. Her fall was accompanied by a shrill cry of surprise. Laurel had fought a few times in her life, but she'd never been surprised like this.

At first she didn't recognise her assailant, having taken no time to sniff his scent (and having sorta forgotten about the weirdo of earlier -- not thinking him capable of something like this). Not knowing who or what she faced, Laurel tried to get up, her nose smarting from impact with the ground, but before she could fully get to her feet she felt wolf teeth around her neck.

pure, adulterated violence flowed freely through iliksis' body as his strike came true. he lived for the surprised yelp, the terrified squirming -- it fed his hunger and his ego with cruel delight.

she was not easy to assail, but iliksis' fangs at her neck kept her subdued enough that he slid inside of her with a pleasured growl. bitch, the dybbuk thought between clenched teeth, savoring the terror that tinged the air.

the quail was forgotten as the duo struggled in the grass. iliksis' moves became more forceful, his grip less careful -- until at last he had spent himself immeasurably inside the deflowered damsel, and permanently sowed her with shame.

he would not be able to hold her for long - she was larger than his usual quarry, but his lust had been tenacious and powerful. during their struggle her fangs had found his forepaws more than once; as the adrenaline faded, iliksis would come to learn his violation had come with a terrible price.

feeling immortal after such merciless defilement, iliksis slid from laurel and spat at the ground near her face, his grin wide and unnerving. "something to remember me by, cunt."

he did not linger. delivering a terrific kick to the quail, iliksis cackled derisively as he left her, alone exactly as she had wanted.

Everything came as such a surprise to Laurel that she didn't realise until it was too late. Before she could get up she realised her assailant was not some wild beast but a wolf. Soon she came to find out that it was a man. She shrieked hellishly as it happened, and it spurred a new anger inside of her. Get off me, you asshole! she snarled but words fell to deaf ears. She put her efforts into harming him instead but despite finding strong purchase in his front legs with her teeth multiple times, grabbing and tearing what she could, but just not enough to actually force him off, he seemed to be completely immune to the pain.

Never one for despair all Laurel could do was fight with all her strength. It seemed a few times she would get him off but her efforts were just not strong enough. Her forceful bites and fighting grew weaker over time as her strength waned. She grew tired and the desperation sank in now. By his scent she determined it was the weird freak and that her underbelly feeling had been right all along.

The worst part of it all was that her body reacted positively, leaving her in a mental mess because it made her feel so dirty. She didn't want this -- she shouldn't want this. Did she want this? Did she make him do this?

No! He was a weak, pathetic man, and she didn't want him. Laurel hated her own body for this betrayal.

By the time he was done she was panting on the floor from the fight she had put up the entire time. Still he did not seem to care about the blood running from his legs as he stopped by her face to humiliate her further. It spurred renewed anger in Laurel's heart and she snapped at his leg again. She grabbed it but her grip was too weak to hold on so he left, adding insult to injury when he kicked the quail on his way out.

I'LL KILL YOU! The shrieked words echoed through the meadow before Laurel broke down and started to sob. Quietly at first, and then, when she was sure he was gone -- though she was still frightened he would come back for more -- louder and more uncontrollable.
