I wasn't expecting to find this. D:
Death was a creature that lingered over Mal's shoulder again. He was fractured, a cursed shell who grabbed for the shards that kept him grounded. He didn't want to be alone. So her absence was noted. He needed her -- he needed to make sure that Aibreann was safe. That she was, along with @Nuala, @Caerus, Ciaran, and Hua too. There were so few left now. He needed them all so he could hold himself together. But it wasn't like he could sit on her. He had to leave to hunt, made sure the children were okay, even though they weren't really children any more, but they still needed his protection, as far as Mal was concerned.

He'd been hesitant to check the shore, last time he'd really seen the ocean was when he had found Cam. After that, he'd stayed away, towards the center of the island or towards the mainland-side of the island at the very least. He found traces of her scent now, but it didn't seem she was right here within sight. He was wary to go too close to the water -- like Cam might appear before him again. Instead he howled, desperately calling for her. Where was she? Did he need to continue the way he was going? Why wasn't she answering? He whined, shifting uneasily from his spot as he listened for her reply which wasn't going to come.
