All Welcome
all welcome! tags for reference.
attn: @Mal @Caerus

birdsong echoed through the den, rousing liliana from her newborn slumber. she bumped against @Asmoses, silently asking that he awaken, then murmured some nonsensical goodbye to @Miriam

silently, she walked to the den's entrance and sat beside it. liliana kept close to home, unwilling to walk any further while alone, and watched the shapes around her form.

Caerus was getting tired of being kept on a leash, in a cage. He wanted to roam the territory as he pleased, but it seemed to piss dad- both days- off. So the boy would slip away quietly. Beyond the forest? Not anymore. But he felt he had a right to wander within their own territory, and he'd enter his period of rapid growth soon, and wouldn't be the same babbling puppy as he once was.

Early that morning he left to visit the children who he understood to be Mal's- but had not yet connected the dots that that made him their big brother. In his mind they were Miriam's and that made them random puppies, not little half-siblings- still, he enjoyed having an audience, and headed over with a skip in his step. Upon arriving he found the girl towards the entrance, and halted, gazing at her playfully. Hiii, baby!

another wolf quickly approached, larger than asmoses but smaller than amma. liliana could somewhat recognize his scent.. though, he still registered as a stranger. he was saying something to her, something that she quietly tried to repeat without success.

instinct beckoned her back into the den. liliana laid down on her belly, head still poking out into the sun, and watched to see what caerus might do next.

When she left, he pursued, finding her appearance had changed much since they had last met. She looked like a wolf now, instead of a gross wet shriveled little alien. Interesting! He got closer to her face, continuing to stare like a toddler. you... you, He began to ramble, you was so ugly befo'! an, an now you look diffunt. He mumbled, not caring whether she understood or not.

nothing that caerus said could have been understood; his common was broken, not much better than liliana's. she looked at him, repeating some of the syllables back, but making no intelligible sounds.

her brother continued with his approach, stopping only a short distance away. liliana made some call to her mother, communicating her discomfort, and backed further into the den.

She was silent. Caerus frowned, face contorting. wut? are you dumb? He huffed. He thought new babies would mean more friends... but this thing was just like the frog from a few days ago. Moving, but without a brain- stupid. Like prey. why you don' say sometin'? He growled, scooting in even as she backed away. He was in the den now, and the shadows felt over his dappled pelt as he closed the distance between them.

there weren't anymore hiding places, but liliana didn't mind. she walked to her mother's side, burrowing beneath miriam's arm to nestle against her chest. her eyes searched for asmoses, then fell back on caerus.

ah! liliana screeched. what else was she to do? she looked at both family members, seeing how they would react, then screamed again: ah!

The girl started screaming, and that wasn't what he wanted. She could squeal, but couldn't talk? He snorted at the sounds of fear she made. why you screamin'? i didn'd do anyting. He huffed. The child was buried beneath her sleeping mother's arm now, and though Caerus still wanted to snatch her to entertain, he was growing bored of her stupidity. He found it hard to believe he was ever like that. idiot, He huffed finally, before exiting the den with much more annoyance than before, no longer so keen on the idea of new siblings being oh-so-great.

Mal had picked a piece of leftovers out of the cache from one of the larger hunts and was bringing that over to Miriam. He was figuring he'd drop the food, get the silent treatment from her, and maybe get a couple of minutes hanging out with the kids. He had plenty more to do that day, between patrols and seeing if he could have a successful small prey hunt to bring his catch to either Cupid or Aibreann as well. It seemed like a pretty normal day.

But he didn't know what had gone on. All he saw was a kind of grumpy-looking Caerus heading out of the den. Not exactly normal there -- and he couldn't at this particular instant and distance hear anything from the den. Mal called out, voice kind of muffled by what he was carrying, Caerus? What had gone on? Did Miriam tell him to buzz off or something?

Miriam was in a deep slumber- not realizing her dear daughter slipped away, or the lil chocolate wolf coming toward. Though she snapped up upon hearing Liliana cry, and a fleeting figure. Definitely was of Caerus, but paid no more mind to him. Her daugher was stressed, and she worriedly picked her closer and nuzzled in comfort, "It's alright, Amma is here," she whispered. There was more needed to comfort then of the source- but even if she knew.. What could she do?

miriam's touch and soft-spoken words calmed liliana. caerus's presence was already forgotten; instead of crying, she buried herself deeper within her mother's embrace. mal's voice and scent carried into the den, though without much acknowledgement from his daughter.

Ears perked up at the sound of Mal's voice, and so did his expression as he galloped playfully towards his father. da'! you got some food fo' me? He rambled excitedly, skidding to a halt in front of dear old dad. Boy, that smelled good... Cae's mouth began to water at the sight, and already he had forgotten about the braindead thing behind him in the den, too focused on the joy of being around his father and smelling meat.

Maybe he'd been imagining it? Caerus was sure happy to see him now -- though maybe that was because he was bringing food. Unfortunately for Caerus, Mal hadn't been expecting to see him here or he'd have grabbed more so this would be less potentially awkward. It also meant he had no idea anything odd had been afoot. Still, Mal's tail wagged, happily, It's for Miriam since she can't leave th' den -- y'know, 'ang on a sec. Talking around the chunk of meat didn't exactly make him the most coherent wolf around. So he gave another wag of his tail and trotted over to place it at the den entrance instead of inside the tunnel a bit where he normally would.

He turned back to Caerus, wanting to greet his son properly this time and give him a good ol' nuzzle and lick to the top of the head, I was going to hunt something up to share with you after -- you could come with me for the hunt now. Were you over here to sing again?
