Calida is in heat! I welcome everything <3

It was her second heat, and she knew it by the burning in the loins, the desire to lay with a man - but she'd never done so, and she had no plans to, even as her hormones begged her to seek company. As she travelled west along the coast, alone, she took a moment to pause - it didn't look like there was anyone nearby. Calida moved to the edge of the cliff, and looked down; she'd never seen the ocean before, and so she stared at it in awe, letting the sound of rushing waves fill her ears and the scent of salt filled her nose. For a time, she became transfixed, and unaware of her surroundings.

he had stayed near red woman if she wished him again.

and then augur had gone to hunt. he had chased the elk over the rise and into the lands beyond. but he had not stopped following them.

the elk scattered. he ran after one and then another. and then he stopped, winded and panting.

augur's tongue lolled. he would have turned back to the redtail wolves had not a specific scent upon the wind caught his attention one hundredfold. the young wolf followed it at once and came to a woman who smelled of pack and of her own season. she was tall with green eyes. in his mind he called her sweet leaf.

the boy stopped and chuffed. he would not approach her unless invited. he did not want to be slashed by the female's teeth.

A male approached, stopping and chuffing at her from a safe distance away. Calida tore her gaze from the sea, taking in a sharp inhale. She stood there, back facing the sea, jade gaze meeting the male's yellow one. He was huge, larger even than Calida, with a well-built, muscular body. Calida found him quite... attractive, if she were being honest with herself. 'It's just the season,' she told herself firmly. Yet as she gazed into his face, she felt her mouth drying. Then, she rasped, "Who're you?"

she gazed at him.

augur held himself still for her appraisal.

when she spoke he tossed his head and pawed staglike at the earth. the sea roiled behind her. 

the redtail wolf drew gently closer. he did not yet reach to touch sweet leaf. but he swung his tail behind his hips, signalling willingness to play along the bluff if she wanted.

He did not respond vocally, but his tail waved behind him as he moved closer, though still not yet in her personal space. Calida felt herself relax slightly, and she let out a long, slow exhale; there was no reason to panic. He seemed to meal well. Still, she was unsure of herself - she still wasn't quite used to strangers, and given the season, she had a right to be. Even so, she slipped into a play bow, deciding to give the male a chance. Thoughts of returning to Atautsikut and to their new home slipped from her mind, and she allowed herself this moment to just enjoy herself, and, hopefully, her company.

she answered his invitation.

augur chuffed and swung forward to nip at the air.

he pulled away next and ran in a half-circle around her. a single low bark came from the male. her scent was enticing though not in the same way that red woman's had affected him.

the hunter paused, ears thrust forward. he turned, willing her to chase him.

The male bit the air, causing a soft chuckle to emanate from Calida's maw, and when he ran around her, she too let out a loud bark, her black lips pulling back over her teeth in a wide grin. She'd not played in... Had she ever played? Calida couldn't remember, but part of her knew the answer was no. With her mother, she had never been wanted, and she'd never had any siblings to play with. It didn't matter now, she realized, as she could make up for it with the rest of her life, and that realization caused something to shift within her. Calida let go of her worries fully now, and when the male turned, she bounded after him, tail high and waving. She would nip at his heels in play, though she wasn't close enough to touch him - not yet.

she ran after him, her breath washing over his heels.

augur's tongue lolled in a wolfish smile. he led her down one side of the bluff and then the other, skidding a bit in the cold dirt.

his tail revolved wildly to keep his balance. another bark and he was off again, exhilarated as much by their playing as he was by her scent.

eventually he would turn and approach her again, but for now there was only the joy shared between them both.

The chase, the salt-laden wind in her fur, the scent of it - and him - filling her nose. It was strangely pleasant. The pair raced along the bluff, first this way, then back, and she paused once he turned, panting heavily, tongue lolling from her mouth as he approached once more. Her sides heaved with each breath, but she loved it - since her injury last winter, she really hadn't gotten the chance to run and, frankly, be a bit reckless. She was fully healed now, of course, and thankful for it.

Calida gave a soft huff, shifting forward and extending, hoping to touch noses with the male, and further drink in his scent. She grinned again, her jade eyes dancing. As close as they were now, Calida's body took the chance to remind her of what it wanted; there was an ache within her, and her mind was quickly filled with a low sort of buzzing, preventing her from rationalizing, and preventing her from moving away. She wondered if the desire - no, the need - showed in her eyes. Did he seek this from her?

augur was still again. the briny wind raked long fingers through his coat. sweet leaf touched him gently and at the expression in her eyes, he stepped forward.

the man buried his muzzle in the woman's guard hairs, seeking all the stories she carried twined in her own fragrance. he licked one of her shoulders and rumbled low in his throat.

she appeared receptive. her eyes were bright with it. 

if she did not draw away, he would encircle her waist with his forelegs. 

augur intended to remain with her for the long hours after, available for as long as she wanted his companionship.

Her body screamed as the other moved closer, and she was about to let him mount, when she abruptly pulled away. "I... can't." She sounded confused, and she was - her body yearned for his, but her mind knew better. What would Lane say, if she arrived at their new home pregnant and smelling of strange men? As much as she wanted this, she couldn't, in good conscious, allow anything more. She smiled a strained smile, then pressed her muzzle into the male's fur. "I want to. But... my pack..." She trailed off, looking up at him apologetically.

augur stopped the moment sweet leaf seemed less interested.

he licked along her jawline. the clawan did not understand all she said. but pack he did. and hers was not his.

still he was only a man, unraveled by her scent. perhaps she only needed persuasion. he would stay close. he would hunt for her. and then he would approach her again.

if sweet leaf rebuffed him a second time, augur would take his leave, back to the rise and to red woman.

the scent of a woman.

the boldness of a man.

jorunn watched them in their courting and felt nothing but a hot rage. an eager envy. she thought of her nights with him and how this male almost dared to resemble him.

the woman would not take him.

jorunn wondered how he would fit along her. he would not fill any place in her heart, but he could be a hearty distraction.

Calida did not notice the stranger female, too enticed by the male; his touch sent a shiver down Calida's spine, and she whined softly, pressing closer to him. She drank in his scent, feeling heady; her eyes squeezed shut tight, and she took several more deep breaths, letting his scent overwhelm her. She gave a soft whine as he pulled away, but he returned only a short time later with food in his jaws. She laughed softly, taking in a deep, shivering breath, then pressed into him once more. This time, she would allow him to mount her.

When all was said and done, she lay there with him, basking in his warmth and scent. She gratefully ate the gift he'd brought, then voiced a worry. "My alphas... What will they think of me?" She felt slightly ashamed, having given in to her baser instincts, but there was nothing that she could do about it now.

augur rumbled again, pressing his muzzle against hers. his body had been sated but the desire was building again as her aroma still punctuated the bluff.

sweet leaf spoke. augur watched the unknown wolf who looked back at them.

he crooned back to the woman at his side. she held his attention. her voice held strain but he did not comprehend her words. only alpha. 

augur began to groom her nape.

He began to groom her, and Calida felt herself relaxing into him - that is, until she noticed the woman watching them. Something in her snapped. She leapt to her feet, hackles raising as a loud snarl ripped from her muzzle, directed at the unknown female. How long had she been there? Her tail arched over her back as she took several steps towards the female, lips curling back over her teeth. If the other woman didn't leave, Calida would make her.

she was yards and yards away from them. watchful of their dance, even more watchful of the affections they shared afterwards.

it took them too long to notice her.

and when the did, the other female seemed to make a challenging claim. jorunn only sent a sharp look her way, then turned to return back down the coastline.

his companion grew snarling and possessive.

augur only watched. this was not a situation in which he should intervene.

the watcher turned. she moved away at a clip. 

augur waved his tail. he pressed his shoulder against that of sweet leaf again, compelling her back into his embrace with a low sound of want.

The other left; Calida's hostility died as soon as she was out of sight. She returned to the male, pressing herself into his side. She rasped her tongue tenderly against his throat, his chin. Part of her wanted to stay. Part of her wanted to move on. For now, she stayed drawn to him, and she murmured, "I may return, should I not be welcomed home any longer." Hell, maybe she'd return regardless. She wasn't sure if she could face Lane after this.

augur's loyalty was to red woman and to their coupling.

sweet leaf had been welcomed by him. but her status would be decided by others who were not him.

the man nipped her throat and nosed at the bones of the rabbit he had killed for her. he was restless, still spurred by her heat and his own existence in the moment.

They were both restless now, and Calida sensed it was time to leave; she'd fulfilled her purpose here, though she felt a growing guilt about it. She picked at the bones of the hare, gnawing on them for their sweet marrow. When she finished, she swiped a tongue over her lips, then pressed her nose to his shoulder, drinking in his scent for a final time. She would definitely remember it. "Thank you," she told him, nodding to the scraps of fur and bone. "I should be on my way now." She gave him a gentle kiss, then turned, once more heading west.

augur lapped at her face again, tail swaying behind him. she spoke. she turned to leave. he almost followed, save for the fact that the set of her hips was not as inviting now. she meant to walk alone.

sweet leaf would be followed only by a low howl of wolven companionship.

and then augur would seek his own way back to the rise.
