above the scars upon his face, the brightberry eyes were solemn. chakliux had come to show the little warrior he had use even in this moment.

a weak moving bird was flung into his space.

the boy stirred all at once. not yet sturdy enough for anything rapid, but he had been working. slowly. hardly.

he only knew that the thing weakly struggling in his space filled his heart with a great unease. it was instinct that drove him to grasp at it. to make it stop.

the world hushed again.

his only price was a soft headache that bloomed somewhere behind his eyes.

the words that followed were first unknown and then understood. he doubted they meant the same thing, but he had no clue what was said prior. only that he had the long yearning again.

"ask the rain star to release you," chakliux grinned. "tell her you must be home in the lodge for the birth of your brothers and sisters."
