her eyes moved warmly over them, and then to the sleeping form of lucette.
a pained look crossed her face. mother gathered daughter to her chest and closed her eyes, willing the power of their lwa to heal the twin.

jadou had been quiet lately. the conversation he'd had with etienne all those weeks ago was something that had seemingly been forgotten and buried; but for some reason now he cannot seem to get it out of his mind.
was it really possible for a girl to become a boy, and a boy to become a girl? he wanted to know more about this phenomenon so badly that it felt like every cell in his body screamed at him.
his train of thought is broken by maman, who he offers a meek smile toward as he reaches out for a clump of gooey sea-meat, encasing his share between his teeth. he settles close to the side of lafayette, studying his sisters with a fixed, but clearly distracted gaze.

Urchin eggs. They smelt strongly and...oddly. A spiny thing she worked her way around to lap at the goop within. Her nose wrinkled, having a hard time deciding if she actually liked it or not. In the end, Shadess decided food was food. If the ocean (and mother) provided, she would eat. 

Shadess and her siblings were beginning a period of rapid growth. Already, she looked so much like her mother. While she lacked the ginger highlights throughout and Blackthorn striping, she matched in deep crimson and and the freckles of color which glowed down the length of her body like shooting stars during a blood moon sky. 

Even their upbringing personality wise mimicked one another, as when Shadess was finished eating, she moved to take position next to her brother's and watched them closely, protectively. All the while, her gaze would flutter yo Lucette. She had been a haughty bitch to her a number of times before and it now seemed she was reaping having such an ill attitude with now illness.

ma fanmi danced in his dreams. she guided him down gilded pathways, through the tall trees and along the cliffs they called home. even back into the roja den. . .which was where he found himself upon waking, his mother offering treaties.

mmm, t'ank you, manman, lafayette said fervently, lapping up the eggs without a second thought. he cast an eye toward his waking siblings, then toward lucette, still mostly out of it.

manman, why she not wakin' up? he asked, brows furrowing.

it had been days, days, since their foray into the turbulent sea. with each hour lucette slept, lafayette felt guilt. she had gone after him, said val—and so any illness she took on was his fault. 

he bit his bottom lip, feeling awfully vulnerable.

"bodies be needin' a long while to wake up when de been t'rough somet'in like what you an' lucette experienced," mireille murmured. her lookalike shadess was quiet, somber, and the mother sighed at the heaviness among her children.
"she be needin' us all to be aroun' here, to talk an' laugh like she was awake an' doing de same," the obsidian encouraged. "family. mmm. dat is what lucette must have now."
