Not much had changed since the first day.

There was hunger, and then there was fulfillment, and then there was hunger again. There was rarely ever any cold now, and when it did come it was over quickly. For her own part, she rarely crawled anywhere except for over her siblings when they tried to steal a teat that she had assigned to herself, whether she was aware of it or not. It was likely because she did not love to move, and if forced to, she would "fight" for her right to remain stationary (with kicks that could hardly be called that, and flailing that was more like rolling).

Presently, hunger summoned her to wakefulness. The firstborn awoke with a quiet mlem and then began to press her face into her mothers side, searching for the thing she had claimed as her own.

Asivaq often daydreamed about her children and wondered who they'd become. It was as she considered their futures that someone stirred at her side. When she glanced down, she realized it was Atausiq. She was squirming towards her abdomen, and without thinking, the mother nudged her child closer to her abdomen and towards the wrong nipple.

Without full sight, Atausiq could not rightly know that this one was not hers. And so this one then became hers, without question—but also, in her mind, it always had been hers and it simply remained that way. Atausiq suckled hungrily, and loudly, little tail wagging wildly behind her as she consumed her claim. Atausiq suckled until she passed out, teat still in her mouth and milk oozing from the sides of it.

She watched as her daughter ate and soon decided that a bath would be in order once she was done. Although her daughter had fallen asleep after the meal, Asivaq leaned towards her eldest child and gently began to groom the corners of her mouth where the excess milk had dribbled.
