Dwin had thought that by now she would be near the coast, but it seemed as if the wilderness was not willing to let go of their prodigal daughter. Whenever she attempted to take the straightest path, something happened and her plans would either be hindered or she would have to take detour. Besides shortage of prey was another problem. Sure - Dwin could run on her reserves and hope the life would offer something better at the shoreline, but by now she had learned that the great waters could give you plenty and then leave you with nothing for weeks. In summer she would take her chances - now, however, she had to save the energy. Winter was just about to begin.
She was drawn to the meadow for far less esthetic or spiritual reasons than the she-wolf she was going to find there resting. Acquiring food was on top of her priority list and she worked diligently to fulfill this task. She sniffed and tracked and after many failed attempts was rewarded. A meager dish, but she was not picky. Who knew, when would the next one appear. Then, while walking she noticed first a set of paws sticking up from the grass - a curious sight and for a moment there Dwin wondered, whether there were actual paws growing from the ground. Or - the next thought was more sinister - what if someone had been buried alive upside down?
Curious, she drew closer, until she saw the owner of the paws, who seemed to be in perfectly good health, enjoying their life. "Is it a good view?" Dwin asked her, approaching in a friendly manner, and briefly casting her own gaze up at the sky, should there be something of importance to see.
