Mother gathered her. Rolling Thunder howled.

Moon Runner’s eyes found Red Woman’s unmoving body. So still.

The last of life has left her, the spirit said. She is dead.

Her crimson blood whet the snow. Shadow cleaned his mother’s face.

Moon Runner did not know Red Woman, and so she did not grieve her… but her head hung all the same.

he would help to dig the grave.

his song would rise with that of her children.

and his own would go on long thereafter.

mountain boulder kept a day's vigil over the grave, crying out from time to time and rallying the sorrow of redtail rise, to become more. to become strength.

Redd did not remain long.  She would return to help and assist, but as they mourned, she silently moved to restlessly check the territory.  The loss of one within had rattled her; she wished to ensure all was safe.

Her mourning was internal, a silent hole that would grow to eat at her in the coming days.  She did not know to display this, nor did she join in the rites aside from lending her voice.  Wealda was gone.  They needed to continue.
