@Bridget had gone. Sialuk wished her the best, even if a small piece of her had hoped the woman would stay. They had two new patients in the mix—@Zyraena and @Hakumele—which kept Sialuk more than busy these past few weeks. She spent her time replenishing the medicinal herbs they used, gathering small meals for them, and checking in on both of them regularly to assure their recovery was going well. Neither was in a life-threatening situation, thank the spirits, and Sialuk thought that they would soon be well enough to contribute to the village in a more meaningful way.

Today, though, she sought out @Alaric. Elentari's departure had to have taken a toll on him. Hanging from her jaws, she brought a small rabbit she had caught within the hour. When finally she spotted him, she tossed the rabbit his way. Old friend greets you, she said with a soft smile.

His daughter was thinking of spreading her wings and leaving. And he couldn't blame her, but he'd miss her. Elentari was gone. Further proof that his hesitation in offering his heart was needed. It hurt and he had enjoyed her presence, perhaps even saw a glimmer of a future, but like most of his small happiness's it was snatched away. So yea it was best to keep the beating thing under lock and key.

Alaric had not done much for the patients right now. Sialuk had not needed him for these two. So he restocked things. Hunted for herbs, filled caches and strolled the borders.

He chuckled as a dead bunbun was tossed at him and he deftly caught at least it's leg and then swiftly deposited it to the ground, almost biting the things leg off. Though rabbits paws are lucky they say.

Well then hello old friend. A crinkle of his eyes and a small laugh.

She watched as he caught the snack without it smacking him right in the face, a more mischievous smile replacing the soft one. The sage was glad to see that the spear's emprex had not lost his smile and laugh, despite Elentari's absence.

Sialuk grew somber then. I miss her, she said. She missed Argent, too. She missed the promise of marriage, a thing now she did not think would happen for her. Both had been her spouses in all but name, and now she wondered if the bride price was too much to ask of a man. Was that what had turned Argent away? Had she stalled too long with either (or both) of them? Would any other truly be satisfied sharing her with others? All these questions had clouded her spirit, but she did her best to push them away.

It had been luck really. The rabbit to the face could have been any type of way. But he jad caught and that was all that mattered about it.

He felt his shoulders tighten at the mention of Ele. And he knew this would come up. But he still hadn't been quite prepared. Did he miss her. The easy answer would be yes. But Alaric always prepared for the worst. And he never gave his heart away for a reason. Did that make him jaded? Bitter? Perhaps.

But he nodded his head. He did miss her. Just not as much as he could have had he given into her want for his heart.

I do too. So does Kinusi sort of. But she'll be leaving soon too. Has her heart set on a pack in neverwinter forest that a wolf named Callyope is starting. I took trade items. Speaking of. One sec.

He bent his head and moved into his den. Rooting around for. There it was. Pressed firmly into the center of a fox fur. He brought the bones out.

These are for you. I traded two otters and a skunk pelt for a boar pelt and it's bones, but only the Skulls, teeth, long bones and claws. A witch I knew once told me those were the best for readings. I know you have your own. But I thought maybe a gift to brighten your day. No need to use em or anything. I don't even know if they can be used. Seer things are not my things. He chuckled then.

This is the Thread where he traded. It is still ongoing. But he did ask for those things.

She listened as he glossed over Elentari's departure. Perhaps he was not yet ready to truly process the loss. Or maybe he had not developed as deep a bond with her as it had seemed from Sialuk's eyes. She would not press further, instead focusing on his mention of Kinusi and her departure. The girl was older now, more than capable of making that decision for herself, even if there was a minuscule part of Sialuk that twinged at the thought of another child leaving the spear. She could only pray to the spirits that Tiuttuk would choose to stay.

His next topic was one she had not expected: gifts of small bones to add to her collection. Considering a few had splintered and broken recently, she was grateful for the gesture. These are perfect, she said, pulling the various trinkets toward her. They made that satisfying clickity-clackity sound as they jumbled into one another.

Alaric took a shaky breath. It was not fair to not share his feelings with Silauk. They were friends or so he hoped. But he was not one that liked to share his hearts deepest things. It had hurt him in the past. Something that Sialuk knew well. He had told her.

I miss her like an ache. But I have always found these things easier not to talk about. Because of my history there. She has made me think perhaps I was not wrong in guarding of my heart. And I am angry with her and I am worried for her and I am sad. And I feel bitter.

He smiled then. Glad he could give her this gift. Even if it was a small one.

i love how they are BFFs <3

Sialuk had never pressed Alaric on his past, and she did not intend to begin today. Instead, she listened patiently as he explained his hurt for Elentari's leaving. His anger. His worry. His bitterness. The Ostrega gave a solemn nod. She felt it, too. To know love is to know its loss, too. She had loved her children, and now they were gone. Many without even saying goodbye. She had loved Argent and Elentari, and now they were gone. For a brief moment in time, she had even started to love Killdeer. That one, at least, she had saved herself from. Perhaps she was getting wiser with each passing year.

You are a good friend, Alaric. I am grateful to have you here. She smiled, admiring the thoughtful gift of bones again. If there was one person she could always count on, it was him.

It is very cool

Alaric had shared more with Sialuk than any other wolf in this world about his past. Not even his sister knew of the horrors he had endured. The witch he had met so many moons ago, perhaps she had known. Because he had been fevered and half alive when she took him in. But that was it. And of course the wolf that had done such atrocities, that was still out there. If he were to find him. He breathed out.

Alaric nodded his head. It is true. The only love that does not hurt or has not hurt me has been my family.

He chuckled. And gave an impish smile. I try.
