She knew he was close—nothing could hide that scent from her. It made her heart skip a beat even now after all this time.
Her eyes opened as his steps grew close, and then she saw him. Her heart fell into her stomach. She knew that look on his face—the guilty position of his ears. She knew he had done something she wouldn't be happy about. Her mind got to work then, swarming her with awful things he might have done to make her upset with him. Simmik straightened and tensed, the relaxed look on her face quickly switching to something cold.
She watched him approach, not saying anything. When his words came, she stared at him for a few moments before answering.
