Ugh, Mae groaned as she settled beside @Cygnet, turned warily to face the direction which brought the strongest mix of wolf scent to her. She watched the shadowy shapes moving, listened to the voices, attuned to any hint of Akavir's approach. It had to be soon, she knew.

He's gonna be pissed.

She didn't turn to face her sister as she said it, still awaiting her father's return. He'd probably send her home, she thought. Easier for him to find a new mate and finally make his plans for a new family that way. Easier for him to forget about his broken daughter that way.

Mae hoped that Cygnet would come with her, at least.

Why? Came Cygnet’s question, before she even took the time to consider the reason. She’d spotted the pale woman with jade eyes, the one who smelled of medicine and herbs- and at first, she’d thought it was just another chick coming to see how available Akavir was, until she noticed the way he practically bowed his head to her.

She had something to do with the sensitive girl, that was for sure. Both she and Mae knew the girl had gone running home to tell her side of the story.

She stretched. Did nothing wrong. She commented.

He always blames me, The words tumbled out all sharp and bitter, stinging as if they'd cut her on the way. He thinks I'm defective or some shit.

But you're right, we didn't do anything wrong. I don't wanna be pitied, and I don't wanna deal with people's fake bullshit either. They act nice, but none of 'em ever mean it.

Mae shifted, agitated. She trusted Cygnet to watch for them both but wished desperately that she could see for herself.

I dunno why he wants to keep fucking with it. He got with Eshe - she's gone. He let that bitch who hurt me stay, now she's gone. He keeps runnin' off and never says shit, and I know he thinks he's gonna find somethin' out there. Why can't he just -

She took a deep breath.

I dunno. Just sucks.

Cygnet kept an eye out, when Mae began to vent. She gazed in all directions, and was ready to cut her friend off should Akavir come striding toward them. But while he was out of sight, she listened quietly.

Mae had been through more with Akavir and Arric than Cygnet might ever know. She hadn’t been a witness of the conversations between Akavir and Mae, and it was unsettling to learn what her feelings truly were.

Just when she thought she’d found a half-decent person to look up to…She frowned. She was keen still to see if he caved and did whatever the pale woman wanted of him or if he might finally stand up for his own daughters. The more Mae spoke, the more she began to fear the former.

He’s blinder than you. Was her only observation.
