All Welcome
Mae continued her wandering throughout Riverclan, finding that she wasn't quite ready to return to Kvarsheim yet. She would be back with them before nightfall, she'd already decided, but for now she wanted to explore. It was only midday, and there was plenty left to see.

She might have been content with her quiet tour of the territory, if not for the familiar scent that came to her on the wind. The fur along her spine bristled all the way down to the base of her tail. She knew that scent, knew it as bad, but from where?

If Mae had seemed oddly unaffected by the trauma of that night in the swamp, it was because that was exactly the case. Already the memory of it was slipping away from her; she hardly knew what had happened that night, except that she'd lost a packmate and gained a sister. She hadn't known Moss, so she didn't mourn her either. And maybe she would have gone on that way, if nothing had reminded her.

The young Frostfur-Mayfair was trembling a little already as she pursued the source of the scent, not wanting to but feeling that she had to. Her heart leapt into her throat when she saw the den. But why?

The yawning darkness of its entrance seemed to grow the longer she stared. Mae crept closer, paws shaking. She leaned forward to peer in with breath held — and when she saw him, when she saw @Bonario, everything else fell away.

Mae started to scream.

Rise. Fall. Rise. Fall. His breathing was stable; though, shaky at times from the clenching of his chest. He was deep in a rested sleep, tired and gone from the day. Nothing around him seemed to be truly real. Sleep went by in no dreams, but silence and void that seemed endless. Whenever he woke, it was to fill empty minutes with food, conversation with his doctor, or because his pain killers had subsided and he could no longer rest through it. Nothing woke him.

Ringing came through his ears, and that ringing quickly built. It went on until it was screeching, and his senses came to a frenzy. His eyes could not even peer open without light blinding his vision. His skin felt prickly, his stomach felt nauseated. His eyes rolled behind his lids, and his nose found clean air irritating his lungs, building his nausea. From gently parted lips, his mouth muttered a quiet, "stop," his head beginning to slowly shake and sway against the stone. Gods, everything hurt. He could focus on nothing. His mind was vacant, high off his head on painkillers that stopped him from foaming in ache. Carefully, he opened his eyes, breaking through the point of the blinding light, and trying to break through the blur in his vision. It was slow, and it was spinning, that he saw her.

That kid.

Hardly able to speak, he tried to control his breathing in his wake, staring at her with half-opened eyes that seemed hardly able to keep themselves there.

What cruel joke was this.

He walked away for five minutes, and some kid comes to scream her head off at his patient. Kel swore and broke into a run, not hesitating to gently pull the child back by the shoulder. Hey, hey, calm down, kid, He tried not to sound as frustrated as he felt. Some Swiftcurrent girl, by the scent of her, but there were notes of Kvarsheim too. What the hell?

He guided her away from the entrance of the den, but not without a glance inside to check on Bonario. Kel gave him a sympathetic look. Kids could be so cruel. Then he turned his focus to the girl, starting to speak — but he didn't get the chance.

It was that night all over again, all at once; Eshe and that smell and Moss and that woman and the smell and the baby, the blood, the blood the blood THE BLOOD —

No! Mae shrieked, not seeing Kel. In her mind it was him. It was the man, grabbing her, hurting her and now she was choking on her screams, stumbling away and her chest hurt so much. Her voice died in her raw throat and she ran.

She ran, and she didn't look back.

His head pounded again. Through the painkillers and calming scent of stone, it came back to him as she screamed. She screamed, screamed and screamed until his mind saw nothing but the light piercing through his closed lids in red. His muscles contracted, one by one, visibly tensing under his skin. A beast under the undercoat, like a resting lion in the dawn. Though, this lion only hurt, and his teeth wished to touch upon none. "No. Nooo.." he grumbled and winced to himself, not wanting this to be happening the way it was now. Dammit, it couldn't have waited? Why was she here? Dammit, he was in Riverclan, of course she could come here. It was not as if he could go anywhere. For the next few days, he was down. He could do nothing about it.

Was he going to be assassinated on his hospital bed? It overwhelmed him so much his head hurt more, and physically he could feel the painkillers fighting to numb it out.

When she squealed, and then ran, he twitched his foot and watched her path away. "Shit," and his voice was exhausted, his heart trying to skip its rhythm. A soften to his eyes, tired and weak, he glanced to Kestrelcloud.
