Limit Two
@Viskani

This was the spot she'd told him about. She said to catch up with her, so here he was, obedient as always, right on time.

The valley below was green. A suitable place for a pack.

He'd wait until she arrived, fur freshly cleaned. He'd spent quite some time ensuring his fur laid down properly.

She soon arrived with gifts and all, her usual entrance - particularly when there was bad news.

"Chesley!" She called out to the boy, her voice slightly muffled by the plump jackrabbit held gently in her jaws. She was pleased to see that he was waiting - tardiness was not a trait she appreciated.

Ches's head snatched toward the voice, and he worked to keep his tail still, despite its natural inclination to wag upon seeing his mother.

He stood, then took to trotting toward her.

"Mother," he said, suddenly feeling ashamed for not bringing her a gift. Upon reaching her, he greeted her with a soft kiss on her muzzle, taking the rabbit and setting it down. He met her eyes.

"You look well," he offered. She had always looked well.

Viskani smiled, briefly placing her muzzle to the top of her son's head in greeting.

"As do you. Has our time apart treated you well?"

Trotting to the other side of the boy she sat herself down, her tail at a slow wag. Seeing her children always brought her some level of joy - most of them, at least.

but it was the shadow ridge that called this place home. the collection of two strangers was enough to draw more ire than it was curiosity.

her spine became a ridgeline of sunfire, raised and bright in her displeasure. scarred features twisted and curled with an even uglier look.

if they did not move on, she was prepared to force them to.

taking advantage of the 'limit two' lemme know if that's an issue!

He felt like a puppy again in her embrace. It was the love he'd worked for, and it was finally paying off.

"It has," he replied. "As well as it could," he added. Truthfully, he did not care for time apart from her. Ches hardly knew what was worth spending time on without his mother's approval.

The onlooker caught his attention, and he briefly flicked his gaze toward her. She hardly looked friendly, and that wasn't completely attributed to the scars that maimed her plain face.

"We aren't alone, mother," he whispered to Viskani.

Totally fine! I DIDN'T KNOW WE WERE INTRUDING LMFAO

She paid no mind to his worries. The markings in the area were not strong, they did not suggest a fully formed pack.

"Let them approach then."

She then glanced to the Northstar Vale below. "We won't be here long - I found a suitable area."

We're just sorting out some timeline stuff, they'll be off soon :)

they did not budge and the gasoline in her veins was lit into a grand fire.

perhaps it was only three upon the ridge, but their message must be clear all the same. that they would not be crossed. she considered this an outpost. one that must work hard to prove its stability and strength.

violence and fear would always send a more poignant message for others to remember them by.

she began a quick, confident rush towards them with snarls and snapping.

no worries at all! makono is just being makono <3

Ches swallowed, then licked his lips, unsure of the situation. His mother's confidence did little to ease his nerves. And seeing the ugly wolf quickly approaching was no help.

"Mother," he said, hoping to have her turn around. Ches planted himself, trying hard to mimic her confidence.

"There's no need for that," he finally managed. "We've clearly made a mistake." he glanced at Viskani for approval.

She frowned up at him, but stood and turned around to spot their new companion charging towards them.

She looked over the approaching wolf; athletic, but not quite as large as them. She had quite the display of scars as well - it made her question where they had come from.

Nonetheless, her actions said that she was both violent and immature in Viskani's eyes.

the man was wise enough to speak of their mistakes. the woman with him only lingered like a rock. makono might have admired her if they had not come together under this circumstance.

then learn from this mistake and leave.

her next message would be sent with teeth if they did not begin their departure.

Heard, chef.

Ches wanted to leave, but he wouldn’t make the move unless his mother initiated. Otherwise, he’d stick beside her.

But that did not mean he’d rather stay there. He cowered under the female’s intimidating gaze, clearly worked up and quickly glancing between her and Viskani. He’d rather his beautiful face not end up like the female’s.

She held her firm stare for a moment longer before diverting it to Chesley.

"I planned to show you the Vale below anyways; it can't hurt to go early." She decided. There was no sense in starting fights with the nearby wolves.

Her eyes soon flickered back to the stranger. "I suggest you remark your borders if you plan to be so aggressive."

With her final comment out of the way, she nudged Chesley. She would rather that he go down the ridge first in case the wolf decided to attack.

her blood boiled and it roared loud in her ears.

the man was nothing compared to the woman. she would have the brunt of her ire if they ever met again. makono only offered a harsh spat upon the ground they departed from.

angrily she would stay, to make sure they made good on their departure.

feel free to close if it feels right! thank you for letting me crash with my grumpy pants <3
