it was not often caiaphas received a visitor, and long were the hours that interspersed each sojourn. her days were dedicated to the mothers and her grotto, and her nights to slumber and wrestling with the demons that visited it. today was no different, though she found herself embracing the last of the warm winds of the season. winter nipped close on her heels. the cache, barren save for a few dessicated flippers, called intently for attention.

but one other thing clamored for attention that day -- the sweet baritone call of a wolf caiaphas never regretted the appearance of. as she broke into a trot to meet him she found her pace slowly increasing until at length she came upon him at a headlong gallop. he looked better than last time she had seen him -- though she could not tell yet if he still favored a limb. she broke into a trot once the distance closed to a handful of meters, her feral gaze tracing from him to the broken rabbit in the sand.
