the first thing arcturus noticed (besides the fact wraen was oblivious to the mindful gap he had left between them) was the way his friend limped. like a spark, all resentment faded -- replaced now with a growing sense of alarm.

his iciness melted as she touched him, and he held himself against her a moment longer, lingering. their contact was fleeting and yet, he found himself wanting it forever.

he drew back, the tension in his shoulders dissipating. he could not begrudge her and like snow under sunfire his anger was melting away, melting to something warm and malleable and soft. her joke pried a soft smile from his lips, boyish and full of good humor.

but mention of her sargent-at-arms and he was stiff again, shifting uneasily from paw to paw. "she is ... formidable." arcturus admitted, looking away to hide his shame to be outclassed by such a woman. "you hurt your paw hunting? what was the accident?"
