a new tangle of scents rested between rags of frost and bare, exposed ground.

astara kept her eyes to the tree line. among the lightly dancing shadows of wintery sun a figure appeared — wolven and unwelcome.

wapun was an extension of ursus’ claim in the blackbird’s eyes. all this brute would be given was one growl in warning.

And here he was once again -- back in the same place he'd met that evergreen-eyed fellow, Evien. It had been a while since they'd conversed, with their last meet-up being over wolf-inflicted neck wounds. The stinging from the medicine wasn't exactly what he'd call "soothing", but making at least he made a new friend out of it. A friend he didn't keep tabs on as of late; hopefully he'd be able to change that.

The grass flattened underneath the pale Pheonix's large paws, late autumn winds drafting through and giving away a scent -- not Evien's -- someone else's -- but who? There, just a couple of yards from Azon was the outline of a dark female's body, and no, she did not look happy to see him. Yet being the stubborn idiot he was, Ignis continued forth. Perhaps his presence was all a misunderstanding to them...

as the interloper broke from the tree line, the shadows lifted and gradually astara was able to piece together distinctions about him.

he was tall. large and muscular too. his pelt a pale snowdown, with dual colored eyes; all of this painted a picture of a wolf not easily outmuscled.

astara began to prowl forward, her tail high over confident steps. her lips skimmed back in a snarl as she advanced, this time driving forward at a gallop only to halt and stomp in clear body language that said said his presence was unwelcome.

He attempted to press on, but the raven in question lunged from the shadows in an attempt to get Āzon to stop where he was. No, this won't do at all. Last time he came here, this territory was not claimed, and while the clear scent of a pack sat nearby, the pack was definitely not settled in this meadow. T'was not pack territory, and therefore, free to roam in his book.

"I'm not after yer pack lady, let me th'hell through." He challenged with furrowed eyebrows. He was not planning on leaving without good reason , and as far as he could see, there was no good reason not too...

the brute brandished more than simple strength; his words cut through the meadow with grit, giving astara pause.

she slowed to a halt, fur still bristling. her gaze did not soften as she stilled: yet it appeared she might let him pass.

Oh....so, she understood?

He thought there was going to be more of a 'back and forth' between whether or not the fae would let him pass, but it seemed to him that it was just a misunderstanding afterall.

"Oh, uhh..." the sire continued akwardly, odd eyes shifting to and from the grass. "Thanks...I guess...". His tensed shoulders eased once he thought things were safe, and slowly began walking to try and pass the dark woman...

the male appeared visibly confused. astara’s posture was rigid, tail held behind her in clear disdain.

the moment the ice-water beast was past, the blackbird spun on her heels and lunged maliciously for either hock. backbiter that she may be, astara was no docile creature — every wolf that came to flirt with danger by coming to her realm was met with the same unhinged ferocity.

Ignis continued his trail past the galactic-eyed raven -- only to have the feeling of sharp teeth grind against his left hock and stop him in his tracks. "SHIT!" the pheonix yelled out in both pain and shock from the situation, and his pale cranium snapped back to look at his attacker with a glare.

Then, it hit him -- he remembered a time where -- not too far from this very area, he'd met a woman by the name of Aliana who told him to watch out for a specific wolf she had the displeasure of meeting. 'A black she-wolf with purple eyes; silent type...' 'Oh great, what the fuck did I get myself into now??' Though now was not the time for Āzon to think about his poor life choices -- it was either fight or die right now.

And so the pheonix let out a deep snarl, hock still in the mouth of the other, and launched his body to the left, opening is jaws in an attempt to grab the side of the woman's thigh.

great satisfaction billowed from the blackbird’s mirthless heart to have made her mark so plainly; the male darted forward in an exclamation of surprise. already her grip on his hock loosened, watching warily for his surprise to edge over into bubbling wrath.

he swung at her with terrific force. astara attempted a dodge to the side, but his teeth still managed to find purchase along her thigh. a sharp rut of pain flared from her hips as she pushed off, snapping at the space between them to deter any second onslaught.

with the gap between them restored, astara set to prowling after him again. this time she held her ground, though her tail flicked ever so cockily to the side in a smug, impish way.

The blackbird was much more lithe in size, meaning there was a heightened advantage in both stealth and speed in comparison to him -- and the way she prowled circles around him could mean danger if he wasn't paying close attention. Āzon's eyes never left the toungless dame and carefully sought out an opening for his next move, and when he found it, he positioned himself immediately. Torso lowered and paws digging into the earth, the muscles of his back legs flexed as he lunged forward with opened jaws that sought to grab a shoulder. The plan was to tackle as well, but with his branded hock preventing that proper footing, his forward power may have not been as strong as needed....

challenged lingered in the mismatched gaze of her adversary. astara met his stare hungrily, waiting.

at last he shifted, moving in quick succession towards her.

his limbs outstretched as his body dropped; astara, thinking he was attempting for a leg, quickly shied away. instead, he'd been aiming for shoulder -- astara was buffeted aside by the brute force of his blow, with two neat red lines like hedgerows marking her shoulder. she rebuked with a series of snaps at anything close enough; a quick, harsh bite aimed to reward him cruelly for his success.

again she placed distance between them, studying him with newfound wariness. he'd hit her several times more than intended, and she would not let him come close again.

prowling carefully, astara began to let the distance between them stretch further and further. one eye was always trained to him with glowering contempt, happy to escort him out of her valley.

Despite his altered balance, the hit landed with decent impact -- though not without a clean bite to the side of his face. He quickly drew his head back by instinct, causing fresh horizontal marks where teeth met skin. Distance was placed once again, and the pale sire began charging towards her side.

wrap up with your post? thank u for the thread <3

astara lead the wraith further from their keep, always assigning him to her periphery. he skulked after her, hungry for more -- but astara had enough taste for violence for one day, and kept her distance.

the various cuts and pocks the beast imparted to her flesh stung, but astara paid little mind.

only when he'd been thoroughly distanced from bearclaw would the blackbird relent. she continued as a nameless presence until they hit whatever invisible boundary it was that delineated the end of ursus' reach -- and once they hit that marker, astara would turn silently into the weald and turn for home.

Sure thing! And np! ;3

Suprisingly, the fight did not continue, and what was supposed to be another clash of fangs instead became the fight's end. The pheonix's large paws skidded the dirt into a halt as he watched the raven exit the meadow, an annoyed frown tugging the ends of his mouth rather comedically. He didn't know if this was supposed to be some kind of joke or a petty act revenge, but wouldn't it have been better to just let him through from the beggining?

No matter -- he was too fucking exhausted to care anymore and didn't want to stress over the raven's way of thinking.

So Ignis would turn away, checking to make sure this she-wolf didn't pull anymore bullshit while he was turned around, and quietly made his own exit. It was clear his stay was not welcomed, and he'd probably have to search for Evien another day...
