She scraped her teeth against her claws, pushing the back of her foot into the ground as she dislodged a bit of gristle from between her incisors. The elk meat was delicious- gamey and tough in places, but there’d been enough meat on each animal to feed not only the hunters but the young spectators as well. Satisfied, and hopeful for another hunt, Ameline leaned against her mate and noisily sucked her tongue against her teeth.

Her gaze fell on the campsite intended for the wolves of Redtail Rise. At first, she’d thought they might have been trying to make an entrance, like the wolves from Akashingo who had arrived a day late. But as the days wore on, it became clear they weren’t going to come.

She shouldn’t be worried about them-
But she was certainly curious.

No showth. She grunted to @Ancelin.

"wonder what that's about," ancelin grunted, but his eyes were for ameline entire as he lay nearby, chin over wrists. who cared if the redtail assholes showed up or not? yet he too had at least a little attachment to knowing what had happened, even if he was loathe to admit it.
favouring his queen's nearest ear with a majestically wet kiss, ancelin smirked and pawed at the air near her face. "we could always go see. after." quite a daring thing. but why not?

She chuffed. Probably thcared they’d croth our path, She said with a smirk. With one last scrape of her claw she dislodged the piece of gristle from between her teeth, and lapped it up. Her belly was full, but still the flavour made her want to eat more. Fatten up for the wintertime, be ready to whelp another batch of children in the spring.

She was glad Ancelin made the suggestion. I wath thinkin’ we could. I don’t think they’d harm the girlth…Or we could drop ‘em home an’ go ourthelveth. Part of her wanted to parade their pretty girls before the wolves of Redtail Rise, as a marker of their success as parents. But she feared what Wealda might do to her children, if envy poisoned her heart.

he loved watching her eat; he loved the way ameline lacked self-consciousness around him. his queen was a woman of many appetites and ancelin was pleased to be called upon for the satisfaction of at least a few.
"i'd want them home first," the bearclaw admitted after a moment. as much as a show of united strength and lineage might be, he too was considering their feral origins, and the violence which had marked those early places of his life. "what if they're sick or something? the rise, i mean."

Then it was decided; the girls would go home, have some time to decompress, and she and Ancelin would make their way to the Rise.

Word of the sickness had been passed around the valley; she grimaced in dread to think that such a fate might have befallen the Rise. I hope not, She answered. But…We’ll be careful. Call firtht, maybe, She suggested with a sigh. And even then, they might be ignored. It left a foul taste in her mouth.

Her nose wrinkled. It wath thtupid of
Avicuth to thplit the pack like that. Part of me want-th to find ‘em in rough shape. Ith that bad?

"nah. fuck em," ancelin said cheerfully. "she should have made you queen after her. if she has nothing when we get back, that's her own fault. we were willing to stay."
bitterness about that still scorched the man, and he buried it inside himself, veiling the old pain with a roguish smirk in her direction. "and if they're not there, well —" all sorts of ways to avail yourself of a suddenly available space.
