Though the victors, as Mal and @Simmik trudged back, they acted more like the losers. They hadn't killed the guy. Why couldn't they have been able to? What didn't work? It was probably Mal's fault somehow, because he didn't want to fight usually, he wanted to be peaceful. It was probably all on his head. They weren't able to kill them because Mal didn't want to be forced into being a fighter.

The walk was largely quiet, unhurried, mostly because Mal wanted to make sure it was easy on Simmik's shoulder, but their paws pointed towards @Aibreann's den in the end. Mal's nose was still dripping -- it's not like he could stop it while walking, and he'd pawed at it a few times to start and decided it hurt so ignored it to the best of his abilities. Mal wasn't navigating by scent because of it, but figured she'd be somewhere near the den so called out, Aibreann? and listened for her answer as they came up on the clearing. If not he might have to ask Simmik to look for her, he mostly smelled his own blood right now.

The stewing continued as they made their way to Aibreann's den and as the adrenaline wore off, her shoulder grew more painful. The little cuts on her face stung too now, and all she really wanted was to find a cave and be alone to stew some more. She knew she needed her wounds cared for, though, and she wanted to make sure Mal was okay.

Her limp was more obvious by the time they reached the healer's den, slowing her steps even more. She was happy to be able to stop, and she looked around as Mal called out for Aibreann. She's inside, she assured him. She worriedly eyed the blood coming from his nose and assumed he wouldn't be able to scent her here like Simmik had done. Are you okay? she asked, moving closer to look him over. In the heat of the moment, she hadn't been able to see what all was happening on his end and was worried about his injuries.
