Mature Content Warning

This thread has been marked as mature. By reading and/or participating in this thread, you acknowledge that you are of age or have permission from your parents to do so.

The participants have indicated the following reason(s) for this warning: backdated to apr 8th; final heat thread

mireille had been successful, she felt. there were no names, save for one, and it was one she would treasure by not uttering again.
inside her brewed the offerings they had given her, churned and separated, chaff from wheat, facing now the grim whim of her own fertility.
only the ocean provided. only the earth beneath sapphique knew if she was worthy to be mother.
mireille knew her home was not far, and so she stopped with the lone mountain between them, believing no other men to be in pursuit for these last remnants of the fragrance which still hung upon her coat.

he knew this scent instantly. it compelled him and sickened him -- lured him and chastised him away.

it was a sense of conflicted possession that sent his feet marching. he knew in his heart no woman of sapphique was his to claim, for they were shaped in the manner of the sea. no amount of holding would stall the shift of tides or the advancement of waves -- he knew this.

for a time he kept his distance as mireille stopped between the hardened shadow of a mountain. when at last he could withstand the strumming of his heart no longer, val approached.

home was close, and mireille lifted a paw to move on.
there was movement, and she recognized the sea-scoured shape of valravn in gentle approach. she let out her breath, for he was the first man she had been pleased to see in over a week.
mireille let out a little laugh, closing the distance between them. "it be good to come back, val," she sighed, stretching luxuriantly now that she knew her journey was at an end.
and here she did not think of him as a suitor, even as the words spoken by svalinn reminded her quietly of a long-ago deception.

in val rose a warring dualism he'd never experienced. it was not his first season, and mireille was not the first wolf to carry such flagship scent. he was compelled to crowd her, to nip -- a strange and sudden urge that was so very unlike him.

she stretched in the manner of a cat. val buried his urges deep, unsettled and unwilling to get much closer. but he was so very relieved to see her, for it worried him greatly to lose any more of his family.

for a time he had mourned @Njord and @Meerkat. for a time, he had worried he'd learn to mourn mireille too.

he let loose a great sigh which nearly folded his body. it be good to see you. i was worried.

"donnae ever worry for me," mireille chuckled, closing her eyes for a moment. her shoulders twinged; she'd cleaned the blood and the wounds had stopped bleeding many days ago, but at least one of them would scar, a reminder of her encounter on the glacier.
"look," she hooted softly, turning to show him the healing bite-marks along her left haunch, shallow but pinked. "i ran into de man who sired chacal's children dis year. ah, i didnae tell you!" mireille scoffed, stalking around val with angered energy. "he came all de way to sapphique! he followed her, an' he said he would keep huntin' for her. we told him he was not needed, an' den we fought. de nerve!"
and now mireille grew still and rigid, staring off into the taiga from whence she had come. "suppose one of dem come after me, val. i'll kill him."

val stiffened to learn that mireille had been hurt. he'd been so wrapped up in his own selfishness, he hadn't even seen the ugly cut which laced her shoulders.

to learn that it came from chacal's suitor! val's expression darkened.

i would kill them. val intoned with a growl, pulling close and then stopping abruptly. who was he?

his protectiveness flashed something low, an ache that was not so familiar and yet was, all at once. the regard in which he gave her, drawing up as if cut off by some invisible line, sent a symphonic glissade along her skin.
followed by guilt, but this was not followed by a disgust, a recoil as she had expected, and therein was a danger.
"a big man. a white circle aroun' one eye. or do you mean t'ese," mireille teased, as vague-sister or as woman she did not know, baring the curve of one shoulder to show where the glacier-man's teeth had been. "i got t'ese by earning t'em, val."
a twist of her mouth. she did not know what was wrong with her, and so pulled away, drawing near desperate breaths of the frigid mountain air into her lungs.

earned or not, the scars mireille wore as badges of gruesome honor stoked lanternlike anger in val. what was it about the rest of the world outside of sapphique that was so spectacularly awful?

she turned away, the bareness of her shoulder teasing. val followed, humor darkened by ire and hunger alike.

did he earn something back? val settled close, exhilarated by how the heat of her body made his fur stand on end. yet he was too enamored by her presence to move just yet. perhaps he’s owed a visit from the two of us.

val's breath stirred along her nape. mireille turned back. "he did." perhaps the spice in the arch of her brow might announce it. guess for yourself. and because from here she could catch the sight of his jawline, she again drew her gaze away.
"all of dem earned what i gave."
in one way or another. worship. loving touch. confidence.
and it was in those memories that mireille felt she at last understood the pulse of val's body. a low, heedless laugh sparkled in her mouth. "don't tell me you be fallin' too."
still, mireille did not look at him, because she could not.
i spoke to svalinn. it would crack the dome spinning around she and val, and she could avoid no more mending.

he’d no doubt mireille had her own scars to deliver. a rueful smile rose and then faded. a troubled thought threaded its way through him. what was left unspoken was why she had gone outside of sapphique, away? and why did he feel hurt over this?

he knew the answer in his bones. similar to how mireille did not look at him then, val could not face his own insight.

i am. he offered with a sheepish smile, rounding his shoulders as he exhaled a long breath into the air that sat chilled between them. his head swam with so many conflicting emotions he felt that this must be what experiencing a whirlpool was like.

one more step was all it would take for him to drive down that invisible tether — but val found himself questioning whether mireille consented to it. the last thing he ever wanted to do was hurt her or brew resentment in some way.

for a girl raised with no concept of father, she had the sense of a brother. and this had been encapsulated and fulfilled only in sobo, a boy who had never left his home and grown into a man of the sea, who forsook men and clung to the name of his mother.
sobo had been the only brother mireille truly recognized. val was not that to her. he was a brother in the sense of childhood playmates, a cousin, a man with amorphous connection to her but all of it belonging to sapphique.
in her dance through the taiga, mireille had been denied one thing: trust. and though totoro had given her a time of gentle respite, it was not the same.
there were no fathers nor brothers. there were only men, once, perhaps twice in a generation, who proved that they could be trusted.
mireille at last put her eyes on val for a second of time and then she was bold; she extended her paw to cup his cheek and pulled him forward the small space until their foreheads met, then their mouths, the connection sending a path of striking fire through her, one backed by the contrast of that aforementioned sense: a bond.

an eddy of emotions val could not read spun across mireille’s face. he waited breathless in limbo, eyes widening as she at last looked upon him and pulled him close.

he felt within him a kaleidoscopic surge of adrenaline. the heat of their heads and mouths pressed together, the strum of each bounding pulse of blood — in his mouth heat stung the corner of his tongue as he turned to embrace mireille with sudden, unexpected urgency.

in val something had slept all these years that at last stirred. it was not just biological imperative that guided his body to hers; it was a sense of growing connection he’d been deprived of all along.

he brought his muzzle from her mouth to the soft cup of one ear; down her throat to her shoulder where she wore proudly the scars of her conquest. he marveled at the feel of her body - its’ strength and warmth and novel familiarity as reassuring as summer sunlight spilling across his back.

Mature Content Warning

This thread has been marked as mature. By reading and/or participating in this thread, you acknowledge that you are of age or have permission from your parents to do so.

The participants have indicated the following reason(s) for this warning: heavy suggestion

there was no hesitation in her. the moment val responded as a man would, any nameless man, mireille spurned the hesitation that would have afforded them a deeper shadow. his exploration of her body was not a quest nor crusade; he did not possess nor demand; he did not have the confidence of a man who held long years of carnal practice.
he was only val and she still mireille, after all, and so for her there were few fumblings and she guided him with the practice she had only just gleaned these past days upon her erotic expedition.
and there was pleasure in it, more than she had expected, something far beyond vital than physicality, but a blending of sorts.

***

"you cannae ever ask me, val," mireille breathed to him when they had parted, time unknown, from one another, and laid beneath a changing star.
she did not elaborate.
her emerald eyes tightened with something inexpressible in words, and she reached for him again.

***

"donnae come home with me. or do," mireille said at last. the heavens had wheeled again. she turned for sapphique in truth this time, electricity limning her very self.

for val all of this was new. yet novel blended with eons of ingrained instinct and before long he found stride, their bodies transmuting under a veil of milky stars.

she pulled away and spoke; of this, val understood. a brief spate of hurt hid itself under the navy shadows of his face, yet he reached for her all the same.

when she rose he was not ready. to leave this place would be to leave this moment — something val wished to clutch forever. yet he knew you could not own what you could not swallow, and this moment like thousands of moments before went fleeting.

he rose and followed, eyes set on the dark shape of sapphique ahead.
