All Welcome
the rain cleared.

sisamat ventured out of the ulaq under watch of his father. he did not get far, and plopped down with his eyes locked on a target in the sky.

the moon! it was a clear enough day now that the moon was visible, and the boy looked at it with great interest. he reached with a paw as if he might grasp at it, and fell forward.

aaba! whaaa-haa? what was that? why couldn't he have it?

Although Kigipigak was watching Sisamat, Asivaq decided to follow him out of the ulaq and into the night. Before leaving the den, she gently kissed her daughters, who had already fallen asleep.

He looked at the moon with boyish wonder, reached for it, and asked: "aaba! whaaa-haa?"

She smiled and took a seat beside him. That is the moon, she answered as she watched him. Can you say that? Moon? Moo-N?

moob, he tried.
mooo-ooo-oo, and again he was reaching for it, pawing at the air as if he might get close enough. he tried leaping at it too, but being so small and so uncoordinated, that did not get him much closer.

wanna! crowed sisamat, looking piteously towards his mother—he wasn't big enough but maybe she was?

His efforts were interrupted by his desire to reach for the moon. She watched in amusement as he tried to grab it from the sky. While she wanted to give him everything he wanted, she knew this was an impossible ask; the moon belonged in the sky.

We cannot have the moon, she began, reaching skyward with a paw to demonstrate that it was too far away. It lives in the sky and cannot come to us on the ground! It would squish us if it could! Could he understand that? She wasn't sure; she worried her bottom lip and hoped she’d made sense.
