Chinook followed directly after @Etienne to a part of the Healer's Circle which they gathered at. If someone got hurt in one of the hunts, they needed to prepare in order to patch them up! Chinook was still very young and had yet to truly understand how badly someone might get hurt by bringing home food but it was a lesson which would come in time.

For now, she stood before a wide set of herbs, flowers, roots and stems and there was so many smells and so many types it was almost overwhelming. Ummm... where do I start?

Etienne gave a soft chuckle. His gaze warm. And he dipped his head. Golden gaze on her small face. You start slow. Dis can be overwelmin' if you not be ready for it. Let's try and pick out separate scents. And some of dem, may smell dey same. Dey just be different parts of de same plant.

He pressed his paw to her's gently. And don't worry about mistakes. You are learnin' an' everyone starts somew'ere.

The little fish-girl looked into the warmth of the man's brown face and golden eyes, her own smile deep as she searched his gaze. She offers a soft nod after a moment, and looks down to the pile of herbs in front of her. Okay... by scent. And so she carefully began.

Her slender muzzle having what it took to grab each piece gently. She settled all those together which she felt smelt spicy 'herby' - thyme, clove and rosemary, it was. Those which to her smelt sweet - lavender and chamomile (she knew these two!) along with mint and lemon balm. Then there were those which smelt more bitter and so she put the yarrow, goldenrod and elder leaves together.

Like this? She asked as she leaned back onto her haunches a moment.

She was small and young. The world hadn't touched her yet, and for that Etienne was beyond pleased. If she could foster her healing in peace. She would be one heck of a healer. Etienne wasn't sure if he was the greatest teacher. He had learned a lot on the fly. And he had made some mistakes, briefly he thought of the girl that had been hit in the head and so many others. But he had done his best.

She moved them by scent and she did well. He would focus on sight next, because though they smelled similar, they were not. But she had done well and a small piece of his heart went out to her. Precious little girl.

A nod. Now we focus on sight. Dey all look different. Some 'ave different colors, shapes. For instance Dis one.

He pulled the thyme, the rosemary and the cloves. The bristly feeling of Thyme. Dis be t'yme, see how it a bit bristly an' aas little buds on it. It be good for breat'in' and 'elps get blood movin'. Dis one.

He pulled the rosemary next, it was also bristly but the pieces were bigger as were the buds. Dey look similar, no? But dis one is 'eartier, bigger, and it's buds are bigger too. Dis one 'elps your immune system, keeps infection at bay. And dis little guy 'ere.

It be comin' from tree. Buds are bigger. It 'as a stronger smell. Dis be 'elpin swellin', and pain. Dis be cloves.

The little fish-girl watched quietly, sea-glass eyes watching wide. The herbs which she had put together would now come to have names. The man lifted one from her 'spicy' group and said that this one was called thyme. Thyme - bristly, spicy scent, helped blood move and helped you breathe... but how, exactly did it do that?

Swelling, pain, immune system, cloves-! Chinook took a deep breath. Do you eat all of them? Her mother had once put something on a cut on Chinook's nose when she fell on slice rocks, but she had also seen her father chew on some. So some you ate, like if your tummy hurt and some you put on things, like with a cut or sore. What about these here?

Etienne had not made much of a teacher. He was a healer, but had worked largely by himself. So to share his knowledge. He found both challenging and fulfilling and he wasn't certain what to do with these feelings. He had been keeping himself together with spit and sinew. And he had been fading fast.

You can eat dem all, or some c'ew dem into a paste. Some like me, prefer to crus' dem and use water. Sometime, dey mout' can make you sick if you is sick and be chewin' on t'ings. But if you 'ave no water. It work in a pinc'

Its alot to learn, this I know, but I will learn it. Chinook said with a smile as she looked to the dark face of the man before her. Thank you for showing me these things. The girl would offer her appreciation and offering a little lowering of her head in additional silent thanks before making her way back towards the center of the healing circle.

will start another!
