When the male pieced together what was not all that veiled a suggestion, it elicited a dry sneer from the female. Yes, servant she thought inwardly, though her outward aspect remained unchanged. She remained affirmative, refusing to let her guard down despite the male's lack of aggression. He was too close to Ankyra Sound and Caiaphas had too much at stake.

She coyly delivered a sidelong glance and the smile dissipated. His words did not seem outraged - perhaps the thick accent masked his incredulity -- but Caiaphas saw no notion of affront in his russet countenance.

"They are not quite servants. They are providers. Protectors. Consorts to a bevy of females who have no mates to call their own." The last part was her own imaginative spin on things -- and she gave him a suggestive look that carried with it an impish gleam in her yellow eyes.

"Interested?" There was a hint of hubris in her voice - a faint tinge of insufferable pride that she was a female and thus superior to males in this small and secret clan.
