He had been on his way to Moonglow for his visit, having missed the last full moon despite his grand intentions and his promise to Callyope; it was now the call of Kukutux which rang across the wilderness and drove him in to a more insistent run. He discarded his gifts along the way, wanting only to be near so that he could see his children; and from the sounds of it, his ex-wife had gone from the village.

As he crossed in to the forest Kigipigak found the scent trails of Ariadne and Kannoyak, and was at first surprised. They were strong scents, but there was no sign of either child among them. And this man — who was he? The man began to scour these paths for other clues, and that was when he came upon the shape of Valiant marching from the other direction.
