Just about one step away from turning into a pumpkin, Niamh was so tired that it took her a moment to realize what was going on when Towhee faced her directly and spoke in a too-loud voice, heavily punctuated for emphasis. She cowered at first, thinking that Towhee had suddenly turned on her, by the tone of her voice. One second later, though, she found her heart melting slightly, warmed by the meaning behind Towhee's words. While Quixote had made her leave feeling like an idiot, Towhee had stepped up and replaced some of her self-worth, and made her feel like she actually belonged there. Whether it would be enough or not, she didn't know- but in the meantime, it made her feel loved and welcomed. 

She bid them a shaky farewell and retreated inside her den, circling a few times in the fluffy bed she and Colt had made before she flopped down. Try as she might, though, she wouldn't fall asleep easily.
