maybe @Colt or @Kentucky (wow fingers type the correct name), I'm intrigued by these RDR2 characters. :eyes:

She spied a buck in the meadow. It was far - which was something Sanja had never thought about before her belly had grown. Any other day she would have tried to chase it down, or stalk close and spy upon it, as bucks were rarely alone. Today she wasn't so ill-feeling, but she didn't appreciate the swing of her abdomen when she put in the effort.

Watching, then. Watching would have to do. Her belly groaned and deeper, something kicked.

this one almost resembled miz amalia. colt had come across her on the prowl for goods. but she weren't the elegant woman at all, she was a stranger, and hunting in the region that he'd decided belonged to the gang.
he stared a little at her belly. she seemed fat in an odd way, but he wasn't thinking about it.
she was fixed on some deer a ways away. he howled a long tone intending to scare them off. "yew weren't thinkin' o poachin', were ya, sweetheart?"

A howl sounded from the tree line and the young buck, alert to it also, turned and then fled. She watched it with a growing apprehension and when she too turned to leave, she saw the dark-faced man. His eyes were like blood.

He spoke with the same language as the commoners in this place, but his tone was almost mocking, and he had a lilt to his words that made things all that harder to understand.

Her fur bristled. It had thinned along her sides while her belly had grown; it was less intimidating and more sad, seeing her grow stiff-legged.

Hjarta? She murmurs. It is one of the few words he'd spoken that she could parse - heart. Sanja eyed him but did not run.

þú eltir dádýrin. Watching him for any recognition, assuming there would be none. dádýr! þar! Motioning to the arcing path the buck had taken. He did not follow through by running after it, so the intent was clear.

Now he was all the company she had left.

he caught the truth of her when she bristled like a feral cat: she'd seen the lustful end of some man who colt doubted was anywhere near.
heart, deer — "we unnerstand one another," he grinned, coming to sidle near. yes. green eyes. dark fur. she was a doppleganger for amalia in all but bearing, which was the wild look of a savage woman.
"yew know," colt said, cocking a hip to shift his weight. "i could be persuaded to go an' help you with the deer. fer a price."

He drew closer and Sanja was increasingly aware of the change to her own body; she wasn't willing to chase after a buck, and knew she could not out-run a man such as this, if he had nefarious intentions. The look in his eye was scheming. His teeth glowed yellow when he grinned.

Hjálp, he offered.

She thought of Slavuj, of the old man Gunnar that had saved her from Void together; but she had no-one like that on her side, now.

Sanja did not want to take her eyes off of the man, but she spared a brief glance to where the deer had fled, and her ears pivot to listen; clearly she is interested.

colt licked the ridges of his teeth. he wondered if this was truly the envelope he was aboit to push. why not? the man moved closer, looking for the snap of her fangs. his red gaze was filled with a leer he expected her to understand.
"i can track real well. they won't get far from me, sugar," colt snickered with his ivoried grin. he stared at her, lifting his chin expectantly.

What was he after?
The look on his face reminded her strongly of Void, the man who had tried to fight her for her own body, and that made her extremely uncomfortable. She did not know what he was saying. There was more information to be read from his body, the tilt of his head, the tone of the voice and composition of his words, rather than the words themselves. She'd have no hope of understanding him beyond the clear confidence he exuded.

Her tongue slips out to flick her lips, her nose; a nervous gesture. Then Sanja is grimacing. His grin spoke volumes and so she would warn him with a look of her own, but they both knew that any threat she posed was all talk; but she averted her gaze afterward, and nodded.

Whatever the price, she needed to eat.

he'd be quick, with enough of a head for her own needs to focus.
when they came away, true to his word, he yawned and stretched and began to track his way after the herd.
if the woman followed, colt would show her the misaligned hoofprints in the dirt. "gotter bum leg," he said of the buck.
he moved through the land like a shark. he stopped to investigate more spoor and lifted his head to look for the antlers silhouetted against the sky.

It wasn't frenzied, or warm, or careful; it was a necessity. It happened - that was all. If there was enjoyment from the act then Sanja had blocked it out - likewise, the deeper implications of what she'd given away would not become apparent until much later, when she was alone to think, to feel properly.

They separated - he was in the lead. Sanja was dizzy and slow to follow, but she did follow, and she watched the man move as if he belonged here.

The woman was out of breath behind him. The entire endeavor had left her skin and her brain buzzing with dissonance; there, in the shadows, a branch lifted awkwardly from the trees.

Not a branch, she corrected herself, and looked to the golden man wreathed by her own musk.

colt licked his dark lips and watched the sharp tines lift into view. they'd have to be careful, and she would be worthless to help in her current state.
colt carefully surveyed the lay of the land. it sloped downward here. perhaps if he could get the bastard to stumble he'd have a chance.
"yew stay here. i'm fixin' to get into place over there." his voice was low. he gestured across from them, where the terrain smoothed upward. if the deer bolted up, he could catch it there, counting on a stumble.
his red eyes burned toward her. "ready?" colt didn't wait. he slunk off to get into position.

The man gave some haphazard orders. That's what she acertained from the way he motioned at things, and intoned with his low voice; before she could stop him - or speak to her confusion - he was off at a pace Sanja could not replicate.

The easiest thing would be to stay where she was. He'd motioned in the direction he traveled, so she assumed that meant his path would take that route.

Suddenly her legs felt tired. It was like before, with the other men. Her haunches trembled, her feet were feeling bloated and sore. A wild look spared towards the now distant man, and then --

The stag! It came striding from cover at first, eyeing her. It might have seen them both together. Maybe it had traced her slow advance and deemed it safe, as a fat bitch like herself wasn't a threat; but the stag was bold and unafraid of her.

She stared at its crown until it bent crooked, and saw something glimmering bronze-gold sweeping close to it, as it began to bolt.

would have been a bad deal if the buck only decided to trample the pregnant woman. as it were, the beast lolloped his way, stumbling on the incline and unable to catch itself on the opposite rise.
the buck slammed to his knees upon the earth, a futile bray sounding into the air.
colt was wrapped around its throat in a second, body dodging to and fro as the sharp hooves flailed. blood splurted between his teeth; he tore his head back and forth, sawing his fangs deeper and deeper until there was no movement.
colt backed off, panting. he tore the nearest haunch, ripping until the joint gave a dull crack.
"rest is yers. thanks fer yer entertainment," colt chuckled before he picked up his share and headed off into the open world.

The man was formidable.

He wrapped himself like a snare around the stag's throat. Red sprayed the air, gushed from the stag's throat before it knew what hit it; bowed before the man on its knees, until it was dead and falling like a log on to its side. It hit the dirt with a hard thump as Sanja moved closer.

The man took something from the kill and left, calling out to her with his heavy voice. The air full of the scent of death, the stag a mess. Sanja thought for a moment about the trade... And with a heavy sigh, tucked in for a meal.

This one, hopefully, she'd keep down long enough to reap the benefits.
