Rain. It was something that Philomena usually enjoyed. She seemed to be made for colder weather and often found it easier to think the colder it was. However, it was still summer (the tail end of it) and this rain was not particularly cold. The other problem with the rain was that it had been raining for days on end without even a short break. Philomena’s fur had never been this soaked, and she was beginning to feel like her bones were swimming around inside her body. She kept her complains to herself, though—partly because she had no one to complain to and partly because that was just how she was: rather silent.

A lightning bolt flashed across the sky and she was shocked it hadn’t hit one of the many trees that stood sentinel before her. She stood at the edge of a forest, one she knew to be occupied by a pack. Most scents had been washed away in the rain, but a scent this strong seemed to be permanent. Thunder crashed down around her and she flattened her ears against her skull at the unpleasantly loud sound. She waited.

Once she was sure that more thunder wouldn’t come along for a bit, she tilted her head back and howled for the alphas of this pack. It was nearly autumn, the coming of the darker half of the year, and it would not do to be out in the wilds without other wolves to go back to. It seemed so far away now, but it was closer than one might think, and Philomena knew that a lone wolf in winter would be a dead wolf long before spring.

hope u don’t mind if I join! wanna use this as a trade thread.

There’s only been a handful of times where Cupid was caught in the middle of a thunderstorm. They never bothered him. He’d usually find some dry place and sleep through it.

It’s different this time. Too loud, too bright. Cupid couldn’t fall asleep, even though he tried his best. Eventually he gave up and chose to wander through the mud. He was close to the call, so he decided to change his path.

Hey, he nodded when he was within her view. Need something?

Storms were getting to be old. He'd been through enough by now just in this last month that a bit of blue sky (or even just non-dripping clouds) would be really nice. Mal was limping along on his patrol, marking as he went. Pretty typical until he heard the howl. Wasn't too far, but he also wasn't gonna run super fast. Shapes formed out of the rain, one familiar, one not.

He hadn't been expecting to see Cupid out here. He hadn't run into him at all at the borders before. Did he mind? Uh. Not sure yet. He wouldn't be surprised if Cupid told him he should be relaxing or whatever, blah blah, but hello, he was the alpha here and he really did need to go and make sure that the borders were well marked and stuff. Between rain and being gone, there was plenty of work to do. Time to find out, he supposed. Now that he was in sight, he walked on that leg with nearly his full weight to disguise it. He'd probably regret it later (and in just a few steps because ow), but right this instant he believed it was the best option. Leaders shouldn't be weak. Or something like that. Whatever.

As he got close, he grinned to Cupid, Fancy seeing you here. Maybe it was all sort of a dare for him to bring up his shoulder. Then he peered over to the stranger inquisitively. He was sure Cupid had asked at least one question, so hopefully she'd give an answer, repeat if necessary, all that jazz. I'm Mal. This is Neverwinter Forest.
