Right outside the den mouth, he's playing with the sun. The title is Sunlight Play

Etienne had gone for the first time out with Manman. But today he stepped outside the den mouth. He didn't venture far, were she inside she could lift her head and see him. He came out because the light was in the sky again, and he was fascinated with the shadows and the light.

He pranced and moved about them, allowed them to make checkered patterns on his paws and fur. He made noises and sounds, so excited. He couldn't yet speak the words his adults did, but he was trying. He was determined to let them know what he was thinking. :SSSS, lllll He tried out different letters, and babbled in absolute nonsense.

the white raven had found a small source of entertainment.

a nestling wolf toyed withe the shadows her wings cast. as her wings moved, so did the nestling's attention.

it brought a smile to her beak, as she flapped a wing, watching the small thing chase after light and shadow.

Etienne continued his play. Ovelry large paws slapping the dirt, and he slid along the ground. Finally, he collapsed in a heap, a gentle trill of laughter curling from his maw and he lay nestled head upon the ground, body to the side. He eyed he white bird that stared at him so prettily and lifted a paw in a gentle wave, but he didn't speak. He couldn't speak, nor could he move.

the bird angled her head and parted her beak, in mimicry of a canine smile.

she waved her large wing back at the nestling. with the wave of the other, she lifted herself off the branch, sending a gust of wind to tussle the young wolf's downfeathers.

Etienne giggled as the wing wind tussled his fur. He smacked a paw into the ground and gave a soft yip. Trying to make noise, the sound of thank you. But it would not fall from his maw. The voice box within his throat still not fully developed enough to speak.

He wiggled his body and continued to lay there. The shadows dancing and he would be lulled to sleep, a smile on his face. He would need to remember to put a crab leg out for this feathered creature.

she watched the soft thing still. her head canted, curious if it had passed.

the great white bird descended.

its little chest rose and fell. breathing.

useful.

the raven brought her beak close to its dark ear, and whispered.

"when stars fall, when sun goes to sleep,

then, little wolf, is when again we'll meet."

the raven retracted its head, an avian smile on its beak.

with flap of mighty wings, it left the seawolf place.

Little ear twitched, little nose too, but he slept on. But he would remember these words, though what they meant and why they meant anything would remain a mystery to the small little sea wolf.

Dreams of birds and sand and sea would race through his subconscious.
