Crowfeather lingered near the edge of the fork in his path.

The honey color of his eyes followed the separate trails that cut directly through the swampy woodland and to grasses unknown.

It had been a few days since Crowfeather had scented anyone from Vein’s pack. This brought him a modicum of relief. Still, he did not wish to test his luck by remaining too close to their hunting grounds.

The scent of Vein’s pack stunned him for a moment.

When Crowfeather glanced upward, it was to see a stranger. The smell that was carried on her pelt was the very same as Vein’s, as the two brutes who had accosted him, and the same as the alpha. Crowfeather twitched his whiskers with regret but did not move.
