I would like that very much, the shadow breathed in response to Ruenna’s kindness.

Did the lady of the caldera know how much Crowfeather missed the glittering display? She could not have. The happiness faded to gross jealousy when he thought of the woman at the top of the mesa with Germanicus. The heat that filled his belly was white and hot. It consumed him so swiftly that it frightened him, exhausted him. The inky yearling did not want to imagine the silver eagle sharing such a precious moment with anyone, not even the lady of the caldera.

Crowfeather felt foolish for his feelings. The image of a spoiled child and still he could not force the feeling from his stomach, from washing through his body and filling him with seething frustration. Even Ruenna’s kindness was a mockery, to him. She would venture to the sea of stars and would gaze upon them with the stoic soldier at her side.

And Crowfeather would be left in the dim light of the cavern.

I think I’m tired…

His voice was pained. The shadow turned his gaze away from Ruenna and Germanicus.
