All Welcome
backdated; tagging those who might be involved: @Meseba @Medusa @Eset @Toula, no posting order and this is basically for khu's reference

"bring him here, set him here."

called down from the palace, she had left tiye with safiya and in short order had taken over the captain's care. she hated to move him again, but it must be done.

fetid stench in his wounds; she grimaced. from the back of his neck almost to the middle of his spine he had been flayed, muscle slashed and flesh bruised. his wounds had swollen and bloated; she commanded aloe and water be brought, cleaning each square of naked red meat as he grunted in unconscious pain.

it was hours of work, and still no guarantee he would live, she told her sovereigns in grim quiet.

khusobek must remain heavily sedated for a long while while her poultices started to mend the torn muscles beneath their cooling touch. a second infection would kill him. and it would be weeks before tavina could be sure he would live.

gentle eset; she squeezed the hebsut's paw between her own before she turned back to mixing medicine at the crocodile's side.

can be a cameo! <3

meseba helps gingerly set the captain's body — bloodied and heavy and ... seemingly fragile in his presumed state between life and death — down with the others. he moves to offer the healer her space, the biting sting of the wounds on that appear to start at his brow and cut down over his eye remind him that he was lucky; even as the vision in his right eye appears to be worsening as time ticked ever onward.

his heart constricts at what this means for his position of mazoi — if the worsening state of his eye meant he would have to pursue something else. already, it messes with his depth perception and he narrowly avoids knocking over a collection of poultices as he turns to leave, knowing that he is no healer and could offer no real help.

he spares a glimpse over his left shoulder towards the captain before seeking to depart unless he is stopped.

only post! <3

"tell —" but his mouth was filled with blood.

his time then as the physician worked was insensate, but still he cried out from time to time and seemed to heave from the table itself as if he would return to the battle.

fire was in him, all of him, Ra's fire;

and Anubis loomed against the wall.

he saw the tall figure of the god there and seemed to relent in muscle as well as mind. surrendering to that cold grasp was an easy thing. but it was this ease that plagued him more. how could he make the choice to leave the ones he loved? to abandon inji, to never see that safiya lived?

more blood, spilling in watered mess to the cenote floors as the doctor cleaned with no mercy his suppurating wounds.

but the fire remained, the flames clawing at his throat.

bitterness beneath his tongue, a swallow of water — had water ever tasted as sweet? — and a merciful blackness.

in conflagration khusobek fell endlessly through the void of himself, twitching there upon the table from time to time until his tortured flesh at last settled into unconsciousness.
