Maegi rolled her eyes at Flicker even presuming to tell her what to do or where to go, but left the jab unanswered. Instead, she watched the woman walk away, gaze pressed coldly into the retreating figure. Only when she was relatively sure that her once-friend was headed away from the grove and not toward it did she retreat a short distance. . .and then stopped.

Damn it. She hadn't even caught a fish, and now she was too angry to contemplate attempting to snare one.

With a sigh, she padded toward the riverbank and crouched down, staring beneath the surface of the gently-flowing river. However Flicker made her feel, she wouldn't let it get to her so much. At least not enough to impede her hunting. She wouldn't return to the ferns without a fat, sleek trout in her jaws, and that was that.
