With the cold, the ground was getting harder, and Fennec found herself needing to take breaks more often as she attempted to dig out her makeshift herb store.  Her ears slipped sideways as dirt fell from the roof, landing in the middle of her forehead and rolling down the side of her muzzle.  She was covered in the stuff, and she despite not being able to see it, she could definitely feel it.

Still, she dug her claws in around a particularly irritating rock and heaved.  She could feel it lever and tilt outward, but her claws slipped and it flopped back into place, nestled in the hole it had formed.  Damn.  Fennec pulled back to nurse her forepaws for a moment, then stretched with a resigned sigh and began digging with a gusto right next to the thing.  Maybe if she hollowed around it, it would make it easier to shift it.

Dirt went sailing a small length behind her, out of the mouth of the hole she was excavating and onto the riverbank below.  She'd been smart enough to pick a spot on slightly higher ground at the very least.  The recent floods had provided a good lesson on that.
