Today, Fennec had decided that she was going to mark the borders. The scent line was strong and she remembered Phox's warning about strangers in the area, so she would help! However she could, which was some, she imagined.
Her stroll along them went fairly uneventfully until she reached a point where, at some time, she flipped where she was in relation. Without realizing it, she'd managed to set herself on the wrong side of the line, and now as she left she began to wander out rather than in.
It took her first steps into an unfamiliarly damp terrain to notice, but the smells here were all sorts of not right. Fennec froze, then listened. If she turned around, she might be able to find home - or she could bypass it entirely.
For now she stayed where she was, stock still and listening. The debate raged, and she knew resolutely that she could at least not call. She didn't know what was around that would hear, and besides... she could handle this. Yeah?

He felt rather useless. Marking borders and scouting their interior lands seemed almost mundane, He hunted game with the pack, though they hadn’t been particularly successful, and he imagined that in itself was worrisome for the leaders of the Grove, given they had two young mouths to feed.
Mouths he had avoided until now. He scouted the nearby lands—the swampy morass an unpleasant sensation to the golden wolf who had been raised in a forest and then a mountain.
The girl’s stark pale pelt stood out, and he noted the stillness of her youthful form. Nervous? Perhaps she had seen something, or sensed something nearby?
Oblivious to the idea that she lived her life in the dark, the Ostrega began to saunter forward, his sharp eyes focused on her as he gave a casual nod. “Hey, you okay? You’re one of Phox’s kids, yeah?”

The stranger who approached at first had her nervously thrumming, and she wondered if she should run. His voice was nice, however, and he knew her dad. He was one of them then.
One of the kids, yeah, she answered back a little cheekily, not sure how she felt about that identifier. It was accurate, but as she grew, she found herself stretching the leash a bit. She didn't want them to think of her as just one of Phox's kids.
Who are you?She asked back, turning a bit so that she was at least facing somewhat his way. It was unnecessary for her when her ears could turn just fine, but it was a habit she'd picked up with Towhee.

The cheekiness in her voice wasn’t missed, but the golden Magnetar overrode it, used to the sardonic ways of life after years of travel and wanderlust. She turned to look toward him, and a light frown pulled at the serpentine Ostrega’s features, his eyes studying her cloudy gaze with dawning recognition as her eyes fell blankly just away from him.
“Pippin,” he returned easily, canting his muzzle to the side lightly. “Do you want to tell me your name, or should I call you ‘Lil’ Sauce?’ Seems like it could be fitting—cheeky.”

Hah! Alright, she didn't mind this guy.
Fennec, but you can call me Lil Sauce so long as I can call you Pips, she agreed, grinning a little impishly. His tone was joking in a good way, not a bad way. There was no trace of any hesitation either, which she appreciated. Sometimes meeting people got a little old because there was always that moment they found out she couldn't see.
What are you doing, patrolling? She asked, though after a second realized she probably shouldn't have shown her cards like that. If they weren't anywhere near the border the question wouldn't make sense.

“Pips and Lil Sauce,” he repeated, the humour clear in his voice as he tested out the nicknames. “Sounds like the names of two heroes about to embark on a pretty kick ass adventure,” he rumbled with a laugh, his eyes sweeping over the girl, noting the cloud of her eyes. His presence was here to keep an eye on her—a self appointed role. But that didn’t mean he had to act like a boring old guy like he was, and stomp on her fun.
“I was keeping tabs on a herd,” he responded, not privy to the guilt she felt at being from the pack borders. “Want to help?”

He took it well, so good! That settled it, he was fine to hang out with.
Her smile had natural humor to it, though. She was hitting the age where she had started making the jokes, but while she could dish it, she probably couldn't take it. Luckily most knew better.
Kick ass,she confirmed, no stranger to that sort of language with Towhee around. She didn't know if she'd call Pips a kick ass name, but it suited the voice she heard, and she'd remember it.
Need help keeping an eye on it?She asked, taking a few steps forward to get what might be, to him, uncomfortably close. It was natural to her, though, how she and Fig always traveled. She couldn't see, but she could feel and hear him next to her.
Sure, definitely, no problem.

She slid easily into their conversation, and so the golden wolf gave a nod of agreement and consent to her company—then realized how foolish that was, as she couldn’t see it.
Hell yeah,he confirmed in regards to the offered company, and making sure to dredge closer to the spirited girl and be louder on his paws than he usually would be, the Ostrava began to lead the way, breaking the silence every so often with meaningless banter, despite the purpose of their goal—to stalk a herd to feed the pack.
