@Dusty Rose did not return.

It seemed that it was destined to always be this way, that the men Reverie loved would always disappear. Twice before she had lost a husband; twice she had not searched. Not even a little. Not even for a moment. She'd wept and raged and grieved, lost herself to the madness of loss itself, but —

but perhaps some part of her had wanted to lose them.

Dusty Rose's trail took her to the edges of the lowlands, a trip spanning long days which separated her from her daughters far too soon after they'd been reunited. There the scents of wolves mingled; blood. There Reverie finally accepted that she would have to turn back. Her daughters would not be far behind, she knew. They would have followed her anywhere. But they couldn't, not this time.

Their second reunion, a blur of tears and hushed explanations. This time Reverie could not shield @Dahlia from the truth of things, though she wasn't quite sure she or Foxglove truly understood. She knew, at least, that @Petal would. Someone had taken Dusty Rose from them.

I'll bring him back. Don't worry too much, okay?

Her smile then was serene.
