All Welcome
As was tradition anytime Fennec's family took off on a trip that she was not invited on, she'd taken off on a boundary-pushing trip of her own alone.  It was becoming a bit of a habit, an somewhat reckless (but overall harmless) coping mechanism.  She was the queen of FOMO, and since sulking tended to get old pretty quickly, this was the best remedy she had.  Even better - no one was even remotely in a position to stop her here.  She didn't even have to worry about hiding it.

Fennec passed through the trees of the hollow silently, the sound of a distant river echoing in her ears, and nosed the leaves piled around her feet.  They'd mostly healed over the past couple of weeks, though a few of her claws were still annoyingly jagged and would catch at random on the loam underfoot.

At least Bronco hadn't stopped by long when he told her.  She could be grateful for that.

Glum thoughts for a glum forest, she thought wryly.  She couldn't even feel the sun on her back, but she knew it wasn't night just yet.  There was a thought, though.  She hadn't spent a night in an unfamiliar forest since her trips with Penn, and suddenly, she knew she was going to.  Fuck all of that noise, she needed a night out and she was going to have one.

Fennec made her way towards the distant water with a smirk on her face.  She would keep an ear open for any critters too... it'd be nice to snag something to get to work on Eljay's gift.

Turns out that it was Fennec's lucky day in a number of ways.  As she got within a few yards of the forests edge, Fennec's ears twisted back to the sound of some strange gnawing and grating.  Beavers.  Slow on land, quick in the water, and even more important - nearby.  She might even have a shot.

Fennec hunkered down and listened harder.  She waited until she could pinpoint the noise, then slunk forward as slow as she could, feeling gently with her paws before she placed them so that she could avoid unnecessary noise.  She needed to be able to lunge and she couldn't afford a mistake because if it came to a chase she'd lose.

Just a little more....

Like a coiled spring Fennec burst forth and lunged, then snapped for the sound.  The beaver on the embankment was taken completely by surprise with a stick firmly wedged in its jaws.  Her strategy had been more cat than wolf, and the only reason she'd managed it at all was because the wind was with her and the water loud.

She got a hold of it with her jaws, but she knew immediately it wasn't a killing hold.  She bit down hard anyway and held on with a vice grip as it began to squeal and squirm.  She had it shoved into the dirt but it still managed to get some claws into her muzzle.  A stalemate that she'd have to break, possibly with the risk of losing one of the few catches she'd ever actually made.

Fenn is blind, and as she's older, will take all of her character insight from tone.  If you are ever uncomfortable with an assumption she makes, please let me know!
