Perhaps she should have expected it, but if she was honest, she didn't fully understand how their mateship stacked against the rankings of the pack. Her position didn't really lend itself to this sort of input; she'd simply intended on giving it regardless.

We can be soldiers and family, but it's hard to stay in a place that you have no connection to. If you want Mereo to be a home, it might be worth allowing yourself to care more about the wolves who make it up. And a little less about what they are or aren't called.

She'd seen wolves like him, and she knew that he cared in his own way, but he was pretty shit at showing it.
