There was no doubt in her mind now. The nausea could have been explained away at first—maybe she had eaten spoiled prey, or the weather didn't agree with her—but it persisted. As did bloating, and an all-encompassing fatigue that reminded her of poppies.

She knew it all too well, and she was terrified.

Maegi sought out Huā this morning, strolling along the line where the trees met the beach. In and out of the shadows she traveled; it was cold but clear, and the leaves filtered the sunlight down in dapples upon the earth. A beautiful day. . .too beautiful for the turmoil in her heart.

@Mou knew. He had to know. How else had their trysts ended? The ultimate physical expression of love always came to this.

But Huā surely did not know, and Maegi feared this would put a strain on the woman's magnanimous invitation for them to stay. Maegi knew she brought little to the table in terms of skills or talents—and now, what she would bring were more mouths to feed.

She gave a timid, crooning call, heart pounding as she grappled with the right words.

tagging you here in case it breaks - @Huā
